Crusader Kings 3 Succession Game

Frisia just recently became independent and before this France was owned by Ruthenia. It was like some strange World War I alt history. Revolts and holy wars broke France up, and I expect Burgundy to go independent again. But yeah, North Africa, no idea what happened there. Was busy with my peninsula.

PMed link sent to Teuton. I’m learning Dropbox, yea!

Nice, you held the realm together!

Yep, Great Great Gammy Mathilda would be proud.

That HRE foothold in Africa is going to be curbstomped by holy wars, and provide a nice buffer for us in the meanwhile.

So you’re saying if the HRE still holds those lands on my turn I shouldn’t try to seize them and reform the Roman Empire? :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless the next several turns go by very quickly I’ll be quite surprised if they’re still being held! But if so, heck, go nuts. My character won’t be around to say different.

It wasn’t easy. The Doge, the Duke of Piedmont and Corsica and the Duchess of Spoleto are all fuckers.

In my personal game I am Emperor of Persia, and I’ve conquered India and Arabia and am about to turn my attention on Greece (Byzantines blobbed hard this game but with three massive vassal kings in India my army is finally big enough to pull a Xerxes and invade Greece).

With so many big vassal kings (the majority of whom are Zoroastrian but occasionally their kids will marry a local and turn out Buddhist or Muslim) and so many different religions and cultures in my realm (conversion to Persian Zoroastrianism is underway but it does take time) I get constant revolts. What I do now is use intrigue to ensure a manageable part of my realm rebels at a time. Then I revoke all he higher titles, so my rebellious kings are now counts, before giving the titles to prior Dukes. If possible I’ll even grant the titles to a local religion/culture duke and pay him to convert along with his capital holding. This makes him love me and lets him deal with the angry vassals for me.

In our terms, that would probably involve letting the Doge rebel, revoking Venice, and giving it to one of the Doge’s sons.

Ok, so I have the game, but I’m unlikely to be able to play this evening. I’ll take a look tomorrow.

Ok, so I have too many titles and, whilst I’m happy to largely mess around, I’m aware that you can really mess things up for the future by unwisely granting titles around. Without getting into specifics, I should be looking for grant the lower titles and try and keep them within my own family as much as I can right? And am I safe to give one of the Kingdom titles to my heir?

If you go tbe the Realm screen > Succession tab it will show you all of your titles that will be going away. Any of your kids who is getting land can instead be given a duchy or kingdom title at which point they’ll be satisfied so long as they’re getting as much as your primary heir.

So the best way to tackle it is to pick the duchy or two you want to keep, and give away the rest to your sons and relatives.

And yeah you can have a King vassal if you’re an Emperor

Yes, if your heir is male, or female already matrilineally married with a son. Be sure to form an alliance with him. Once you do, move one of your troublesome vassals to be a vassal under your son-king. Just one, otherwise you risk him being overthrown and then you have a vassal king not of your dynasty. If you think dukes are troublesome, wait until you have a royal vassal.

You should not have more than two Duchy titles. If you do, destroy them (costs a lot of prestige) or grant to someone in the dynasty (preferably an adult man, and male children are better than any female (damn patriarchy) ).

If your demense is too large, try to grant baronies that are not county capitals. Otherwise, grant to male dynasts. Worst case, grant to a loyal member of your court. For example, someone on your council with good stats.

And if you really can’t find loyal candidates marry a daughter matrilinearly to a lowborn or minor noble, then grant THEM the title; kids will be of your dynasty and will inherit the land.

Yes, but wait until she’s had a son if possible, to make shenanigans less likely.

Emperor Giorgio took the throne aged 55, and died aged 81. It’s fair to say he suffered a bit in later life - he started with an eyepatch, but ended up a leper with no face and only one leg. He outlived his spouse, married a serial adulterer (who he divorced after she got pregnant by someone else), and then married an 18 yr old who only had a couple of years as Empress before… well.

The realm hasn’t changed much. There were some peasant rebellions, and a stressful time when one of his daughter’s married into the Frisian royal family and we kept getting dragged into other people’s wars.

What the next person does have is a ton of cash, so perhaps it’s time for more expansion!

Holy Roman Empire, Batman! Look at that North Africa.

Sharp intellect! They didn’t even mention his pox!

We’re Maliks now? :open_mouth: dear God, what have you wrought?! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll be honest, I don’t even know when or how that happened…

XD Was one of our wives (the first one?) of an Arabic culture? It looks like our son has an Arabic name and maybe now that the ruler of the main title is Arabic the title changes to follow Arabic names.

I’m surprised we are still Italia and not Giorgio in that case because Arabic realms have dynastic naming (like why the Abbasids are the Abbasids and not the Arabians) but I think that might be because our heir is still Catholic
