Yes – it would be using your culture for the title until you died. Then the title passes on to your Arabic heir who is a Malik and it retroactively changed your title to Malik as well.
If the next player uses the Convert to Local Culture decision to adopt the culture in Tuscany we should go back to being an Emperor. Or we can embrace our Malik ways!

But is also making serious inroads in converting it to Catholicism.
Succession law changed to house seniority as soon as I took over. Maybe a cultural thing? I’m going to try and build up our levies to increase the overall quality of our troops.
The save file I received was actually just before dad’s death, so I cheated a bit and demanded that my guy convert to Catholicism before his death. So I’m catholic, but the culture is still wrong. My heir will be Italian, though, so that’s good. I predict a short and chaotic reign.

update: so I have all the gold in the world and relatively healthy personal holdings. Pretty decent army
The problem is that the HRE and Byzantium have each grown massively. There are no more Arab realms to Holy War in the Middle East, the Catholics have won.
I have a vassal with a claim on Burgubdy so I’m gonna push that vs the HRE. Hopefully that will put me in range of the last Muslim bastion, Spain, and I can expand by holy war.
I was hoping to restore Rome but with the HRE and Byzantium being so big and having taken all lands open to expansion I’m not sure that can happen.
