I don’t think he wants things settled. He doesn’t want all the kids on the playground to play together and get along. He wants them at each other’s throats 1) because it makes him feel like a powerful bully, 2) it entertains him, and 3) while they’re all fighting, he can steal their lunches, milk money, and homework.

He has said that he thrives on chaos and conflict. This is what we see every day and yet we try to call it, I dunno, *strategy *or something. He doesn’t know from strategy; for one thing, it’s a three-syllable word.

It KILLS me the way some of us and also pundits and commentators continue to talk about him as if he’s normal. They/we talk about his policies, and his plans, and what he wants, and his goals, blahblahblah. He doesn’t have any of those. He doesn’t even know what they are. He has the attention span of a goldfish (apologies to goldfish) and shoots from the hip every damn time. There is no premeditation and no planning. That is abundantly clear by now, isn’t it??

He was always a psychopath. Always. From the first day he drew breath. Some THINGS should be crushed at birth.

Somewhere back in the depths of time, maybe even before the inauguration which was 4 centuries ago in sane people time, I posted speculation that Trumps role in the Trump Organization had been largely ceremonial for some time, and the kids just brought him in for some sort of signing ceremony after everything was done. And even then, the kids probably sweated it out each time and probably with reason.

I’m more convinced than ever that I was right.

You don’t do that sort of “deal making” because you have to deal with them again tomorrow. Sure, if it is a one off thing, and you have no ethics, then screwing over your opponent and bragging about it seems a great idea.

Ultimately, you have to have something that people want, and that you have shown a willingness to give, in order to negotiate. Negotiation isn’t “I take everything, you get nothing”. He doesn’t know that.

I already replied to this argument in GD, but there were parts I didn’t get to say there.

This is dishonest as fuck. There is no way in hell the that minority party is always at fault for any lack of compromise. That is utter, motivated nonsense.

No, its honest as fuck. But for the filibuster, the majority just gets what it wants. In this case the majority would have gotten an extension of CHIP and a 3 week continuing resolution to give themselves more time to deal with the budget. The minority party blocked that. Therefore the minority party is at fault.

The party at fault is the party who refuses any compromise. And, in both scenarios, it was a subsection of the Republicans who refuse to compromise. The subset isn’t necessarily the same, but it’s still always Republicans.

So why didn’t the Democrats compromise on repealing Obamacare? They didn’t compromise at all. They didn’t even repeal it a little bit. Was THAT shutdown the Democrats fault? I bet the Republicans would have been satisfied with repealing half of Obamacre but the Democrats said no.

What’s more, as I covered in GD, this time, that one party lied. One party in the negotiation was negotiating in bad faith. So everyone else took that in good faith, reached a compromise, and then that party reneged. The Democrats and most Republicans did what they could do. It is only one party that is choosing not to play ball.

Its a democracy, majority generally rules except when civil rights are involved. No civil rights involved here. So but for the filibuster, the majority would have its way.

This is Trump’s shutdown. He and his cronies refused to compromise. This time after saying they would.

We can call it the Trump shutdown and maybe it will stick but Republicans were willing to shut down government in an effort to repeal Obamacare and Democrats were willing to shut down government over DACA. There is really no wy around that unless you are living in a liberal bubble.

Because the Democrats were quite clear that Obamacare/ACA was not on the table. Compare and contrast to doing something with DACA, which Trump in particular and the GOP in various weaselly ways said they were in favor of. That made the CR a fine time to do something about it. It even gives the GOP cover - they could go back to their base and say “we had to a DACA compromise in order to pay the troops”.
