What exactly is this stuff made out of? I’ve heard that it can easily be made from stuff people usually keep under a sink (which I doubt), I’ve heard it’s made from Sudafed, and I’ve heard that it’s ether-based. Does someone know the straight dope on this dope??
Yes, clandestine drug labs commonly use ephedrine or pseudoephedrine from over the counter pills, plus a variety of common household chemicals and solvents (lye, sulphuric acid, muriatic acid, camping fuel etc) in the synthesis of methamphetamine.
I’m not gonna post the ‘recipe’ or procedures.
Thank you very much. For the record, neither is anyone else. Let’s keep this one very General, folks.

has all you may need to know on the subject.
Crystal meth is methamphetamine and most certainley cannot be made from everyday household products, what I think you have heard is about the process of making it smokeable, which like turning cocaine into crack is relativley simple and uses household items (bicarbonate of soda or amonia in the case of crack) and is usually done in the kitchen although i’ve heard of people blowing themselves up doing this. Richard Pryer did I think.
Holy shit! well you live and learn dont you…
OK, I just have to respond to that Richard Pryor comment because I’m a big Richard Pryor fan and it just annoys me when people get the story wrong (most people do). Richard Pryor set himself on fire by dousing himself in liquor (can’t remember what kind) and lighting a lighter. This is in his autobiography “Pryor Accusations.”
If that’s the case, why is history full of quotes which go back all the way to 1980 or so, which state that Richard Pryor almost burnt himself to death with ether, which is used in turning cocaine into a freebase agent?
Even Time Magazine quoted the ether statement in the official police investigation at the time.
Since when has the story changed to Pryor knowingly dousing himself in liquor?
Wow… watta hijack, guys
Back to the original topic of meth manufacturing, be advised that if you ever get curious and decide to cook some up yourself that a lot of the “recipes” are inexact. Also, without access to fairly sophisticated laboratory equipment (such as GC/MS and/or IR), it’s impossible to verify what your products are.
I guess the point of this post is to say that although methamphetamine can and routinely is made from household chemicals, there are a few necessary reactions that would either have the potential to blow up your house if done correctly or cause you to be poisoned (quicker than by meth that is).
cooking any kind of chemicals for mind alteration is generally hard and dangerous, I would also advise people not to do it.
brewing alcohol is also dangerous, luckily it can be purchased legally in many societies saving you the job of doing so.
cannabis and magic mushrooms whilst they grow wild can be cultivated at home with a small amount of investment and work.
any such activities may be illegal in your place of residence.
Boo Boo Foo- All I can say is that this is the story that Richard Pryor gave in his autobiography. If Time Magazine said something different based on a police report, than I don’t know what to make of it. If I had the book right here, I’d quote what it says. I don’t think he would tell a story to cover up his use of cocaine/crack seeing as how he states that he was using them when he set him self on fire. So I dunno.
Nobody complain about changing the topic. I started this thread and I’ll change it if I wanna!!
How many comedians can you get in a volkswagon?
5 - 2 in the front, 2 in the back and Richard Pryor in the astray.
I was in a crack house once – well, it was more like my (former) drug dealer’s bedroom. He started cooking up a batch right in front of us. I swear, the air turned poisonous. It felt like squirting ammonia straight down your throat. I couldn’t even breathe through my nose, because the air would literally burn my mucus membranes to dust. And I couldn’t even leave the room, because his dad was entertaining two hookers in the living room, and the cops were waiting in the street to do a “random sobriety check” on the first person out of the house, and my ride & I were waiting for them to get bored and hit the donut shop.
All the while, this guy cooked and cooked with no outward effect, humming away like the Iron Chef, or like that mortician in Arachnophobia who would waltz into the morgue while eating a huge salami sandwich.
Yeesh, thank Got that was over a decade ago. Sometimes I’m amazed that I’m still alive. :dubious:
Finally, a North Dakotan is the most aware of info on an OP. Do a search in the archives of Grand Forks Herald and the Fargo Forum, you’ll get hundreds of hits from justthe last few months.
Unortunately, being a state with a LOT of rural area, meth labs are quite common here. It’s been estimated that ND is the world’s leader in meth labs.
meth is easily made from OTC items, and anhydrous ammonia is the best way to get a reliable batch. Being that there are so many farms here with tanks of the stuff just waiting for a trailer hitch, you can see why this is a popular spot.
Two things though. First, meth labs are very dangerous, many a home or motel has been burned down by explosions (see news archives). They can also be carried in the backs of cars.
Second, EVERY store in the state that carries suspect ingredients are involved with the meth watch program. Go to any gas station, Wal-Mart, Target, etc and try to buy more than 2 boxes of decongestant, expect the cops to pay a visit.
Crystal meth production is illegal and this board is not going to provide information how to produce it.
