CSI 10/20: Gumdrops

OK episode. Some things that really seemed kind of pointless were the motives and some of the character’s actions. Tell me if I’m missing something -

1: Supersmart (yet complete idiot blabbermouth) essay pimping idiot son tells jocks that he will GIVE them a bunch of marijuana

2: Jocks show up but oops, parents are home, and essay pimper tells then the deal is off

3: So were the jocks (who he knew) on football scholarships with everything to lose, going to rip him off when he’s offering them free weed?

4: If they were getting free weed why did one of them bring a gun? Was it not going to be free enough?

5: While the parents are in the house the obvious thing to do is not to come back later then essay pimp can score them some weed, but to whip out a pistol and begin threatening people?

They weren’t. The kid offered to sell them some weed, in an effort to be more popular/get invited to parties/whatever. They doubted that he was connected enough to have access, and he boasted that there was pounds of it at the house.

Three jocks now know that a skinny little geek has somewhere between $10,000 and $30,000 worth of contraband in his house, and are given to think that he’ll be alone with it. If they take it, that’s a net gain that goes well beyond spending your allowance for a personal stash. Who’s he going to tell? What’s he going to do that won’t come back on him or his family? So buddy grabs his dad’s gun, thinking that they’ve got some easy pickings.

The gun was already in play before they knew that the rest of the family was unexpectedly home. Everything quickly went for shit. As for people with everything to lose chucking it for some poorly-considered “big score,” that strikes me as depressingly realistic.
