Since I don’t see a thread by ivylass, I’ll stay up a little later past my bed time to open this (my first).
I pegged the widow as a liar early on, although the heavy-handed opening (“You monster, you took your eyes off your child for two seconds? No wonder he was kidnapped!”) made me reflexively sympathetic. The sex offender and the neighbor were obvious red herrings; the accused couple were more authentic, especially the wife who “out-mothered” Catherine. Nice bit of Brass history with the Marine connection, and not too sappy.
All hail George Eads for shaving off that hideous mustache! I’m not sure how I feel about Kelly’s return as a story element, but I like how the scene played.
Another nod to continuity, going way back to season one, was Warrick’s easy rapport with Adam. Pretty sly how he got the buccal swab and fingerprint.
Sara, Greg, Hodges: blink and you miss 'em, dammit. I didn’t miss Det. Curtis though, not one little bit.
So Grissom just stands there and unloads his big secret childhood drama on Catherine. Maybe it was "Dead relatives around the house " week, or maybe the writers decided that backstory is best served in dumptruck loads at three-year intervals. Valuable information to be sure, but delivered in utterly random fashion. Par for the course.
Kelly was the daughter of the guy who kidnapped Nick and locked him in the underground coffin. She was in jail at the time because she had been involved with a murder and the supposed reason that he kidnapped Nick was that a CSI had placed his daughter at the crime scene from her DNA though she claimed that she wasn’t involved.
Nick visited her in jail at the very end of the episode and said something like “don’t take it with you when you leave”. That’s what she was referring to when she stopped by.
I’m not reading I’m not reading I went all the way to the end before I hit Post Reply.
I love my sleep. I really do. I love naps. I love sleeping in. However, I have reached that age where my butt isn’t as perky as it used to be, so I have been getting up at the godawful hour of 5am to go to the gym. I decided to go every day before work, because it would be too easy for me to decide to take Fridays off, then decide on Wednesday morning, “Well, this will be my Friday” and hit the snooze alarm.
In any event, the early mornings have a tendency to catch up with me and by Wed or Thur I’m eyeing the clock at 7:30p at night, trying to decide if I can get away with pretending I’m a six-year-old who just spent all day at Disney World and had cake for dinner and who needs to go to bed before I completely implode.
Which is a roundabout way of saying I taped the episode and will report in when I’ve seen it. Thanks for starting the thread for me, plankter.
You’re welcome! I kinda thought you’d be mad at me…:o
After I posted that crack about dead people I watched this week’s “Without A Trace” (warning, HUGE spoiler)……and poor Jack Malone’s father croaked on his own couch! It’s Sofa 2, Dads 0 so far this week on CBS primetime.
CSI is still technically my favorite show, but aside from “Gum Drops” and to a lesser extent “A Bullet Runs Through It”, I feel let down by this season. I’ll still tape every episode but something needs to happen soon. Like Grissom re-acquiring human flaws, or Catherine suffering the consequences of her high-handed behavior. On the brighter side, the first half of season four blew chunks and then it got better, so here I remain.
And because I can’t say it enough: Thank you George Eads for losing the pornstache!
Meh— I figured out he wasn’t her kid in the beginning the instant Grissom asked her why the coat didn’t look worn and her telegraphed “I’m a nut” look.
The “kid” was (to me) borderline retarded. It unbelievable that the CSI has to cajole him to tell him which is his real mommy. Any normal kid that age would be able to ID his own damn mother without the patty cake.
As a final point did her off the kid with tranquilizers or what? The point was never made clear beyond supposition.
Antipsychotics – and it was never established beyond a doubt, but they found traces of it in the human decomposition where the kid was apparently buried first.
Moustache? What moustache? Nick never had a moustache! His beautiful face is as clean shaven as ever.
Watch out for the anvils dropped from the sky. We now know why Gil is a CSI…his father wouldn’t get off the couch and no one would tell him why. (Cue dramatic music.)
I thought Jesse started playing with something martial and his mother killed him in a fit of rage. And didn’t the mother work? Wouldn’t she have had a life outside her son?
I believe the mother would get off on mental disease or defect (L&O reference.) It’s obvious she’s about two steps beyond reality.
Is the timeline off? Four years ago would be December 2001. Were we in Afghanistan that soon after Sept 11?
Air strikes began on Oct 8, 2001 and the last Taliban stronghold fell on Dec 7, 2001. So it is possible that he could have been in Afghanistan at the time.
I don’t know if any Nevada based units were involved at the time but, I’m willing to accept that as dramatic license.
Gil feels secret guilt because he wishes he had plunged a thermometer into his dad’s gut to check the liver temp, and he wishes he had ordered a tox screen to clear his mom of charges that she killed his dad by making her famous meatloaf.
