I’ve seen the actor that played “Todd Coombs” in tonight’s episode before, but I didn’t catch the credits, and the episode doesn’t appear to be on the official CBS sanctioned website or the IDMB.
Anybody know who he is and what else he’s been in?

I’m not sure what his name is IRL but he was on a few Friends episodes as the neighbor that Rachel liked but pretended not to. She lost interest in him when it turned out that he was waaaaaay to close to his sister.
George Newbern, you may remember him from the Steve Martin versions of “Father of the Bride”.
Pic here, dark-haired guy
If someone beats me to posting this I am going to curse this darn slow computer and dial-up for taking me 10 minutes to get the info. Well, it’s already cursed.
Thanks Tiramisu & KRM, that seems to be the guy.
I think that he looks similar to the guy from ‘Third Eye Blind’, so it might only look like he’s more ubiquitous than he actually is. Not that the Third Eye Blind guy is getting a lot of exposure lately.
Since there’s already a CSI thread (this one), I’ll ask this here first.
Is that whole “Chimera” thing legit or is it BS?
One set of DNA in your hair and a different one in your sperm?
Why even have DNA tests at all?
And do both types mix in your blood?
Basically: WTF?
I did remember the term Chimera from biology, but I didn’t remember it being possible in humans. A quick googling shows that it is.
This article has a picture of mosaicism similar to what was in the show.
Wow, thanks…that looks almost exactly like the picture they used in the show.
It looks like they took some liberties with mosaicism/chaemeras, and the article mentions blood types and chromosomes but not DNA.
But hey, at least it was an actual medical condition and not something that they made up!
Or was I the first to find out about this because of the show? :wally
Nope, I’d never heard of it before, and was hoping there was a thread about it (the show), or I was going to start one. I’d never heard of the condition before, and they seemed to zip through the explanation a little quickly for me.
My question…who was the rape victim, and where the hell have I seen her before?
I liked this one…wonderful twist! But I wonder about the bone marrow donation. Don’t they do extensive testing to see if you are a match? I doubt they would consider a candidate based on a mouth swab. The chimera only showed up in a blood test, but according to Grissom, they went ahead and did the transplant and his brother died as a result.
The ending…meh. Sarah has a drinking problem, blah blah blah. It would have been better if she had seriously screwed up a case because of her drinking.
Too bad Grissom is an only child…I would have liked to meet his brother or sister.
I thought the flashing while Grissom took photos of Coombs back was some sort of special effect, until I saw Grissom’s “a-ha” look.
I wonder how rare this condition is? Paging Qadgop!
Yeah, the victim was very familiar but I could not recall anything else I’d seen her in to go about looking her up. I had to wonder why the victim didn’t have any police protection, after all her assailant had killed before and she had seen him. Even if DNA had supposedly cleared the one guy, they knew there had to be some connection.
I agree about the bone marrow donation thing. It seems like they would have done more extensive testing to find a match and found the problem before the actual donation. The article I linked to that some people can have the two sets of DNA in their bone marrow where it continues to seed the blood, causing “blood chimaeras”. So maybe they gave the brother marrow that had both sets and he rejected the non-matching?
As for the light while Grissom was looking at the guys back, he was using a UV light. The article said that the stripes are sometimes only visible under ultraviolet light.
I have such a terrible memory, after reading that article again I realized I had heard of blood chimaeras before. A few months ago I had been doing some reading about blood typing and I remembered running across it.
The victim was played by Nina Siemaszko, who I used to have quite a crush on. And I still think she’s awfully hot – when she first appeared, I felt jolts of both vague recognition and “damn, she’s hot.” She looks like Hope Davis’ hotter sister, and Hope Davis can be pretty darn hot.
Then she ends up a rape victim and I felt kind of guilty about that, illogical though it may be.
Thank you! I kept thinking she looked like Hope Davis, but she has a less angular face. It was driving me batty!
That’s it! She’s Ellie, Jed Bartlet’s daughter on West Wing.
WTF??? And all this time I whought is was Martin Donovan. He was in The Opposite of Sex with Christina Ricci.
Hm. Donovan was in an episode of CSI called “After the Show”. He was the seriously creepy guy who would only talk to Catherine.
I thought he looked younger this time around. But I watch TV without cble and sometimes my bunny-ears make things a little fuzzy.
She sould’ve palyed one of the brothers though.
