I was watching CSI:Miami last night for the first time ever, so this could be a re-run. I’m really not sure.
Anyway, I was really hoping that SOMEBODY saw this last night. I saw the first 40 minutes, then I fell asleep!
Who did it? What happened to the family?!?!?!

It was a rerun.
Spoilers galore below, so…
It was the father who did it. They determined it was him because the could tell from the way some blood drops fell that he was standing over one of the bodies when they were killed.
The father leaves work and comes home. He kills the mother then goes upstairs to kill the kid at his computer.
The older kid comes home from the fast food place and sees his mother shot. He grabs the toddler and runs outside with it and hides it in the doghouse. He then goes back inside for the baby.
I forget the exact sequence of events here. (I didn’t watch last night since it was a rerun and I forget exactly what happened.) The older kid has a gun from somewhere and, when the father comes downstairs with the shotgun, he shoots him. He then grabs the baby and heads for the front door. But, the father isn’t dead and shoots him as he tries to leave. (I think he stands over the body to deliver a final shot. This is when his blood drips on him, proving he was standing over the body when the kid was killed.) The father then collapses.
The toddler wanders from the doghouse and this is how everything was found at the start of the episode.
Once they put it together the father claims he was temporarily insane because of the problems they were having (baby crying all the time and so on). Horatio figures out that the father cleaned all the fingerprints off the gun safe in the garage (with some kind of cleanser that they detected) then called the wife and asked her to check on the safe, meaning that her fingerprints were the only ones on the safe. Since he planned this in advance it was pre-meditiated so his insanity defense will fail.

I was so annoyed when I realized I’d fallen asleep. haha I’m pretty new to CSI, so I hadn’t seen this one before.
I thought the father and teenager struggled for the rifle and the younger son got it away from him. When the dad turns toward the infant with another gun, the son shoots the father in the back. The son then scoops up the toddler and tries to run out the door. That’s when the dad shoots the teenager.
The younger son was shot at his computer. The older teenager had shot the father after seeing what he (the father) had done, and then grabbed the baby. That’s when the father shot him, killing him and the baby. The teenager had already stashed the toddler in the doghouse.
At the end they said the father’s defense was going to be “post-natal depression by proxy.”
Actually, that sounds right. As I said, I didn’t watch last night so I was trying to remember the details from the first time it aired back in November and so didn’t remember exactly where the gun came from. Thanks for clarifying that.
