cuban strawberry fail

Many years ago I watched a documentary wherein there was a bit about how Cuba tried to corner the Strawberry market. They bred a big, juicy, richly colored strawberry they were sure would sell well. Except that it was bland as water. No taste at all and so it turned into a fiasco instead of a win.

Does anyone know what this documentary was? I know it had to do with politics/political science (since I saw it in an undergrad poli sci class).

Anyone?

I don’t know about it, but the breeding would have had to have been before Cuba was embargoed. They couldn’t have expected to make a world wide killing on it after trading was cut off.

The U.S. is the only country that has embargoed Cuba. The rest of the world trades with Cuba, and would buy strawberries from them if the price and quality were right.
