Cubs win 100th-Is it finally their year?

Baez’s grand slam to left field sealed the deal against the Bucs, and the Cubbies are now 100-56, #1 in the National League Central, best record in the National League period…hell, best record in both leagues, period. Is this the year they go all the way?

Yes… all the way to the ninth inning of the seventh game. And then the goat bites them in the ass.

Or maybe 108 years is long enough?

Theo destroyed one unbreakable curse.

Might as well go 2-for-2.

I sure hope so, if only for my dad’s sake.

Could be, but hopefully they’ll have to go through my Nationals first.

Actually I hope they lose in the previous round, so that we don’t have, like, everyone in the world rooting against us. Or if we lose against the Dodgers, then sure, I’d like to see the Cubs go all the way.

Giants take Cubs in five, Series in six.

Maybe.

sigh (“But it IS an even-numbered year, Toto!”)

Unfortunately, the cause was determined to be years Taylor Swift released an album, not simply even-numbered years. No album this year means we’re screwed.

I’m still hoping for Rangers vs. Cubs.

Indians v. Cubs would probably be the most intriguing matchup from a historical perspective. At least SOMEONE would be guaranteed to end the misery for their long-suffering fan base. Of course, given the Indians’ rotation injuries in the past few weeks, that’s become a less likely outcome.

There’s no question the Cubs have been utterly dominant this season. But particularly in a five-game series, and particularly if it’s against one of the “cockroach” teams (Cardinals or Giants), I certainly don’t think the Cubs have any guarantees of getting to the NLCS.

I don’t think so - there has already been a team blow a 3-1 lead in a best-of-7 series with two home games remaining this year.

Besides, there’s another “curse” involved; the curse of the US Olympic Women. In 1996 and 2000, there was serious talk of naming the USA’s women Olympians SI’s Sportspersons of the Year, only for some incredible event to happen and knock them off of the cover (and both times, it was Tiger Woods). The Red Sox fans got it when they won; I expect the same if the Cubs win.

ESPN is reporting that Wilson Ramos is done for the season with a torn ACL

They have a better chance than anyone, but ultimately only a 20% chance of winning the WS due to the unpredictable nature of the game.

I might point out that just last season the Cardinals won 100 games and got knocked out of the playoffs. . . by the Cubs.

The Cubs had 97 victories, though. Most of the rest of the NL is quite weak this year.

What us Cub fans need to remember is that the MLB playoffs represent a very small sample size of games. Sure the Cubs may end up with 103 or 104 wins, but any team can beat any other team in a single playoff series…

The Cubs magic number now stands at 11. Until we get that 11th win, I won’t count my chickens.
.

This. They’re clearly the best team in baseball - best pitching, lineup maybe only second to the Red Sox (maybe just plain the best). But the best team doesn’t always win.

I dunno. Was 2001 the Seattle Mariners’ year?

101-56.

Just sayin’.

Yup, they’re the best team in baseball this year. Even speaking as a non-fan of the team, they’re exciting. But, as has been already noted above, a lot of weird things can happen in a five- or seven-game series.

Frankly, I really do hope that the Cubs win this year. Why? Because, much like Red Sox fans before 2004, it’s nearly impossible to talk with a Cub fan for more than 2 minutes before they start talking about the WS drought, and the goat curse. If the Cubs win, their fans can finally shut up about it already!

I was convinced that 2012 was the Cubs’ year. Because of the Mayan calendar, and all that. Turns out that the World didn’t end, and the Cubs still didn’t win the World Series.
