Cubs win 100th-Is it finally their year?

The English Premier League this year was won by Leicester City FC, which had never won the top flight of English football, during 132 years.

And still, one has to expect that something will come along and stop my beloved Cubbies… :frowning:

Peremensoe:

And on top of that, they hadn’t even been to the World Series in much longer - 1959 vs 1986 for the Red Sox. I’d wondered, at the time, why no one ever seemed to care. My best guess is that a recurring series of near-misses is more dramatic than never getting close.

As for comparison with the Cubs (granted, the Cubs drought had always been longer, but the White Sox’s was long enough that there should have been legends about it as well), I imagine it’s simply that the Cubs are more popular in Chicago than the Sox - probably the mystique of Wrigley Field versus the simply utilitarian Comiskey Park.

Reminds me of a joke (originally about the Red Sox): the Cubs are up 3-0 in the World Series and ahead 10-0 in the top of the ninth in game 4 (remember the AL gets WS home field advantage), with two out and nobody on. The first two pitches are swung and missed for strikes. The third is just outside for a ball. One Cubs fan turns to another and says, “Here we go again…”

How many of those 22 did it in years with interleague play? It’s hard to judge a 100-win team if it never played the team it is facing, or any of the teams that this team faced during the season, in the World Series.

Cubs just scored 4 runs in the ninth to overcome a 2-5 deficit and win the game.

After last night’s 13 inning marathon, I was almost worried come the 9th this time.

Almost.

Cubs win! That San Francisco every-other-year shit is DEAD.

Starting Giants starting pitcher Matt Moore goes 8 innings, gives up 2 runs on 2 hits, GETS PULLED, and 5 Giant bullpen pitchers can’t hold a 3 run lead in the 9th. This is the kind of disappointment Cubs fans have been enduring for 108 years. So yes, the worm may have turned for the Cubs. Maybe.

Wait’ll next year. You’ll see.

Gratz Cubs and fans. Seriously. We had our 50-year drought and that was bad enough… I of course loathe the Doggers and couldn’t care less about the GNatz, so I’ll sit quietly in a corner of the Cubs section for the rest of this season.

FWIW, the current Vegas betting line has the Cubs at near even money (6 to 5 or 7 to 4, depending on source). That’s not just for beating the Dodgers, either; that’s for taking the whole thing.

Today’s Cubs win makes me think the billy goat is finally dead. Let the Dodger’s tie it up in the 8th against your best closer, then hit a grand slam and a solo homer to take a 5-point lead.

Oh, and that Bartman tease when Rizzo dropped that easy pop fly. I think that was planned exorcism.

No way you can fault Chapman. He gave up a single.

This burns me so much and encourages me to dismiss ESPN baseball writers as blathering idiots. Chapman gave up one single.

What put a smile to my face was that every. single. Cubs. fan. in those seats were leaning away from Rizzo, giving him room.

Cubbies Going all the way!!

I managed to be in the neighborhood - on the Belmont El platform - when the game was called. Kinda cool to hear the wave of celebration travel from north to south. Was more than happy to observe the nuttiness from above as the train passed Addison and not be in it.

A few things that have occurred since the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series.

Someone pointed out that Vin Scully’s entire 67-year career fit in-between the last two pennants for the Cubs.

So Vin was actually the source of The Curse.

The Baseball Gods truly do work in strange and mysterious ways…

FBI issues warning about counterfeit Cubs World Series collectibles.
