May you roast in hell, where you will do a sloppy job delivering there as well.
I’m talking about UPS, FedEx, SysCo, and any other delivery service parking unsafely. Today I saw a UPS truck parked blocking four parked cars. This place is ALWAYS coming and going so I am certain there were people stuck waiting on the delivery. At least 10 minutes.
But it’s not even that…it’s when they park by the curb, ESPECIALLY near intersections, and you have to carefully skirt around them as they are blocking a lane of traffic.
Same goes to landscapers. If your vehicle in any way causes issues for cars or pedestrians YOU DON’T BELONG THERE.
I’d also like to pit their ultra aggressive driving style including size intimidation, 4 way stop hopping, and jamming in front of me last second only to turn half a minute later.
If I can get enough people on board in this thread I think we could rally for a demonstration and flip a UPS truck. Failing that, a USPS truck!
…and the damn school buses! Stopping everywhere and forcing traffic to stop with them.
and how about those 18 wheelers on the highway? maybe we should kick their asses off so that traffic isn’t impaired every time they go to pass each other.
Delivery trucks are going to park wherever they need to in order to get their packages delivered ASAP. Most times the ones I’ve observed are making an attempt to minimize their obstruction while getting their deliveries out fast.
Its inconvenient for those in the area but I view it as a necessary evil.
And as for your rally - the first four of us that responded don’t seem to agree with your cause. Maybe you should campaign against cat herding or something.
That’s gotta be one of the stupider things I’ve heard in a while…
So when was the last time you bitched about the cost of shipping a package? 'Cuz making the delivery guys find a parking lot big enough to fit the truck, and then hike all over hell’s half acre doing deliveries (back and forth to the truck multiple times) is going to up the hours they work, thus the cost of your package.
I’m ok with a little inconvenience in my life, thanks just the same.
(Oy, I do type slowly… This was directed at the OP, btw)
Some of those trucks don’t fit in standard lots, the drivers shouldn’t have to pay to park and when you’re making as many as 5-15 deliveries per hour, you don’t have time to park, lock up and walk blocks to each delivery.
Out here they occasionally park in the center median. This is really good at not blocking traffic but probably increases the odds that the driver will be run over attempting to jaywalk across four lanes.
I know it is a necessary evil. There are so many necessary evils in society sometimes I feel like I’m walking around a moving minefield.
I know the roots of the problem don’t seem to be solvable. I guess they have nothing to keep them in check.
I think they should also be ticketed for this. It is no different than me going into the store quick to grab a coke and being illegally parked.
What percentage of packages are actually worth the life cost potential?
Also keep in mind I am not talking about tractor-trailers. I know they can’t park in most areas. But give me a break, my uncle drove UPS trucks so I’m sure they can’t be too hard to drive.
I guess I’m the only one in this pit, alone in my hate. I’ll just channel my hate into “hope you catch on fire” prayers. lol
Where do I sign up? I’m totally with you and share your pain. Don’t misunderstand, I’m all for the delivery of packages. And where ‘required’ I’m willing to be patient and understanding. Shit happens, I get it.
But when there is a perfectly good driveway provided, or a parking lot/space right beside, then you. are a complete lazy ass for blocking the street. The city requires buildings to provide parking for visitors by code. Spending my tax dollars to pass and enforce laws to keep downtown traffic from being snarled to a halt by inconsiderate jerks like you!
You’re not freaking delivering TVs, just small boxes and envelopes, for Christ’s sake. Pull you damn van/truck off the roadway, and walk an extra ten steps already! I think citizen’s should be entitled to key your vehicle should you choose to block the roadway for everyone, as a convenience for you!
You know, I see both sides here. But when a delivery driver (and I am looking at you, UPS) double-parks when there is a perfectly good,* reserved for them*, loading zone only 50 feet away, then fuck them. Tow them.
