Some of the sexiest girls I ever knew had small boobs. Some of the bitchiest ones had massive ones. Personality and attitude is a whole lot more important. Girls who aren’t happy with what nature gave them will sooner or later be disappointed with what the doctor sold them.

That’s a whole different fetish beyond large breasts.
I think there’s a vocal minority who love very large breasts, and it skews the imagined statistics. I think the vast majority of men have no preference, they like all sizes and so that makes the large breast side of things look more popular.
If the ratio went something like:
A = 10%
B = 20%
C = 20%
D = 20%
No preference = 30%
If we add the 30% to each of the other stats, that makes the C, D and D+ crowd look like a bigger majority than they really are.
Disclaimer: Stats pulled out of the air; I may be talking completely nonsense
This. I am ambivalent about boob size though ceteris paribus I’d pick the bigger pair.* I am much more likely to be swayed by, er, form. I am most likely of all to be swayed (in a bad way) by someone whose insecurities result in cosmetic surgery for someone else’s benefit. If she wants big tits for their own sake (“I’m doing it for me” yada yada) then more power to her. If she wants big tits so men will like her better that’s not good.
*To a point. I generally find overly large (double D-plus) boobs unattractive unless they are proportional. My wife is a C and that is more than enough for me.
It seems to me that twelve to fourteen year old boys really skew towards preferring large breasts, and they aren’t subtle about it. In fact, that’s the age where they develop a sort of slack-jawed amazement over the very existence of large breasts, and the larger the better, because it’s just that much more damned amazing. Tastes become more refined later, but so do reactions. So I can see how women are left with the impression that it’s all about volume for men. Big boobs make a huge difference in boys’ behavior in middle school; it’s not crazy to think its their self control and behavior that has changed, not their preferences.
This. Men overwhelmingly prefer big breasts to the point that they not care if they are real or not. Sure, most men rather have real big breasts but they will take big fake ones over real small ones.
[Some wise fellow whose name I forgot] If they’re there, they’re real enough. [/SWFWNIF]
I’ve always considered myself an ass and legs man, but I like a C, anything less is fine, because boobs(!), but C is just right.
Totally incorrect.
Speaking for myself and most of my male friends, we prefer at least a handful and natural. But as Loach stated, nice is nice, and size isn’t the end-all. Enhancements within the reasonable range are fine for whatever reason she may choose, and of course, there is a point where it can get ridiculous.
My female friends are mostly indifferent, with a few against it, while others have undergone enhancements. IMO, they simply desired a certain look and it was their best means to attain it. Otherwise, it’s the same person and they didn’t really become more or less attractive, if you ask me.
What is the unusual preference? And what is cool or sophisticated about liking what you like, in this regard?
I don’t think there is a right answer here.
Well you certainly proved us wrong, well done.
I think the point was that there may be a bit of white-knighting going on. I’m sure if a woman posted that she had big breasts and her sister said they were too big, or too floppy or too whatever, the big-boob brigade would rush in to tell her that big breasts are the bomb, love them, etc.
The OP mentioned having smaller breasts and men who prefer those have posted to state as much.
On the whole, I think men’s preference probably skews towards bigger, rather than smaller (although I have no cite or anything), but it’s only a single data point among all the others (face, ass, legs, etc), and it’s personality that’s the deciding factor.
I don’t hate boob jobs, nor women who get them. Done well, they can look great in a sweater or under a blouse, even in a bra. What I don’t like is the the lack of movement, especially when a lady is lying on her back. Personally, I considered large breasts a bonus in any girl who was willing to date me (a much smaller group than women I wanted to date). I’ve never been in the position of getting far enough along to find fake breasts, and I probably never will be in that position. I don’t know how I would have handled that (innuendo intended).
Don’t speak for most men. You don’t do it well.
I’m a small breast man myself. D cups are…well, I hate to say gross, but they’re not attractive to me.
If half the respondents in this thread knew what a D cup actually looked like, I would be amazed.
IMHO, bigger is better, but with some qualifiers: small breasts can be cute if they’re perfectly shaped, huge breasts can be too sloppy looking unless they’re well-shaped. Average-to-large breasts get more leeway.
I like 'em just fine, but I tend to be more attracted to women in the ‘B’ range. I really don’t care for implants, but if a woman wants to, that’s her business.
I’m attracted only to women with petite, all-natural breasts that are more droopy than perky.
I also insist on hyper-pigmented, oval-shaped areolae (not to be confused with alveoli, which I prefer pink, moist and sac-like).
Artificial nipples of clown-nose proportion and color, you say?—oh, you’ve got my attention now!
Gelatinous, coyly asymmetrical buttock cheeks suspended by rail thin legs and huge feet? Honey, you better get yourself a wedding dress or restraining order quick!
…of course, you’ve got to be a mousy-haired librarian type too, or the deals off.
One of the obvious factors at work is simply that people are more interested in posting if they can offer a contrarian viewpoint. Most people who think “yep, I like big boobs” aren’t going to bother to post the typical viewpoint to the thread, but the guys who think “I don’t get why everyone likes big boobs, I like them small” has more motivation to post.
There’s also, in my observation, generally the idea that liking big boobs - of the “bigger the better” sort of variety - is a rather juvenile thing, and hence, the suave and sophisticated man’s taste run against the norm. There’s some status to be had, or at least they think, by proclaiming your like of things that deviate from the norm. But big (or maybe I should say very big+) boob preference in particular seems, in my observation, to be particularly … unrefined.
And then there’s guys who just habitually appreciate, or say they appreciate, features that deviate from the normal ideal of beauty if they think they’re playing for the crowd or want to try to impress girls that otherwise aren’t getting the most attention from men. If you did a scientifically randomized poll about whether men preferred thin or overweight women, it would skew very heavily towards thin. But if you ran a poll like that on the SDMB, there’d be a whole lot of men, probably the majority, saying “I don’t get what all those other knuckle-dragging men see in these stick figure women, I have a refined palette and appreciate a little extra” way out of proportion to the actual beliefs of the average man.
So for anyone concluding, from reading SDMB threads, “huh, men don’t really like big boobs after all”, be aware that it’s not really a conclusion that you can draw from here. It may in fact be true, but these threads are a horrible barometer for the general preferences of men.
