Curse of the bookmark that would not die

I have several bookmarks that will not go away. I have tried edit, cut, delete… but they will not be gone. They don’t even lead to the sites that they originally were bookmarked for. How do I trash these squatters?

I assume you are using Firefox as you referred to the bookmark rather than favourites? Right click on the bookmark and select delete. You can also use ‘organise bookmarks’ from the bookmark menu.

What happens when you select delete? Do they disappear & return a few minutes / hours / days later? Or just fail to disappear right then?

What OS?

What browser?

Are you logged on as the administrator/root or as an ordinary user?

Are there multiple logins / users on this computer?

I will shamelessly piggyback on this thread and ask about the equivalent problem on the new tab page on Chrome. It has 9 panels with sites it has determined you frequent. There is a couple of those (that link to pages inside other sites that I do want to remain there) that just won’t go away. Is there a way to remove something from that list?

Cannot delete bookmarks in Firefox 3: A fix

I am the only person to use this computer so I am the admin, I am using Firefox and XP is my os. The bookmark will not go to the site that it once did. Now it does nothing when selected. I have tried various times to delete, cut, re-organize but yet the bookmark remains.

If the bookmark file is corrupt then the only thing you can do is start with a new file.

Firefox stores bookmarks in a file called bookmarks.html in your profile. You should be able to shutdown firefox and rename the file to bookmarks.old. Start firefox again and it will create a new empty bookmark file. Begin rebookmarking your sites.
