Customer service anti-nightmares?

Inspired by this thread, I’m curious in hearing from the other side of the coin – what experiences in customer service/retail have Dopers had that were pleasantly memorable? Not every customer has to be a total fire-breathing monster, do they?

(Of course, by “customer service” I mean cases where you’re the one giving out the service. Being treated well/ by some retail employee is not what I’m looking for here)

Once a customer berated me over the newspaper ad being wrong. She then went across the street and bought a paper; THEN she came back and actually apologised because it was her who had made the mistake. That was a shocker!

I’m really glad to not be on that side of the counter anymore, so I try to go out of my way to put myself in the other person’s shoes when I’m being served. I’m ESPECIALLY nice to people like the ones in the Lost Luggage area of the airport, or some other “shortest straw” type of position. A little “nice” goes a long way, especially if someone is having what feels like the worst day of their life.
