Cute Dress Purchase, need shoe advice

I went out on my lunch break to return a foundation primer to Sephora that wasn’t working out for me and bought the cutest dress ever!!!

I can’t link to the picture but it’s from BCBG Max Azria…if you go their site here it’s the grey blue dark chambray poplin dress on the 6th column (counting the first one) under “Day Dresses”. (the link should go to ready to wear). It’s basically a greyish-blue shirt dress of sorts.

I’m still debating what type of shoes to wear. Unfortunately the high heels that I have in the caramel colour the model is wearing are in Boston. I have a caramel coloured purse that I plan to wear that is the same shade as the shoes shown.

So what should I do about the shoes…does it need to match the purse exactly? I was pretty excited when the sales assistant told me cognac/caramel is the best matching colour for the dress until I remembered that I left my perfect coloured Aldo heels in Boston. What range of shades? I’ve been looking at those new wedge espadrilles recently but I’m worried they won’t go with the purse and dress together. Is it sartorially gross to not match the texture of your purse accessory to your shoes? I mean, if I wear canvas on my feet, am I supposed to also lug around canvas under my armpit?

Also, if I wear cream coloured espradrilles do I need to tote around a lighter coloured purse (lighter than caramel/cognac, I mean).

And yes, this is for an outing for this weekend that I am rather excited about (in Chicago, and don’t tell me it’s too cold for that dress because lalalalala I can’t hear you).

You don’t need to match shoes to purse, as such. As long as they complement each other rather than clash. Go with cream coloured espadrilles and try for a paler purse but it’s unlikely that the first thing people notice will be “Oh. My.God. She hasn’t matched her shoes and purse. Ew.”

It’s going to be more like “Wow. Legs.” It’s a matter of highlight features etc etc.

Cute dress!

It actually comes to right above the knees on my because I’m wayyyyyy shorter than that model. Thanks!!!
