I see from the “What would your pet say” thread that there are a lot of pet lovers out here. So, lets hear those cute stories about puppies and dogs.
My aunt once had a sweet little schnauzer named Daisy. We had a wonderful white Christmas one year, very rare around here. My brother and I built a snowman in our aunts back yard, and Daisy got really upset. She would rush outside and bark at it. We tried to keep her inside, but if she saw it out the window, she’d start barking at it again. She acted like she could chase it off!
Yeah I took care of her for two weeks in the summer, and we brought her down in the basement one night when we were watching TV. And she’s a maltese…very small if you know them. We were all sitting on the couch, and she was trying to get onto it. (Not an easy feat: she’s tiny!) She kept trying to pull herself up…and after awhile she made it. it was relly sweet…
'Scuse me while I melt into a puddle; I love dogs!
My woofer is named Baskerville. She’s mixed black Lab/Shepherd. She pretty large; mostly black/brindle with white paws and a coal black, chiselled Shepherd face and ears.
The name is a joke, because she looks fearsome but is the friendliest, happiest dog ever on 4 paws. She has a sunny soul.
But she very rarely barks. She makes dinosaur noises. True fact: even as a puppy she’d mumble, yawn, grumble, yodel but hardly ever bark. (My sister dubbed the sounds “dinosaur noises”; they’re croons wandering up and down the scale.)
But the rare times she barks–she scares herself. She has a truly impressive bass bark/growl. This scary noise from such a sunny dog scares intruders, but it scares her too. If pushed she lets fly with the wolf snarl…then prances back to me, mumbling and crooning and all upset.
Sorry, this sounds completely demented. Critters are just so individual and endearing.
Doesn’t sound demented to me, *Veb. For the first month that I had my newest dog, Duke, I never heard him bark. I wondered if he even did bark. However, he always made the strangest vocalizations (still does), especially when he greeted me. He would mumble, snarf, snurgle, and had such a high pitch yawn, but he never barked. Well, one day he finally did, and both of us jumped.
This next story may not exactly qualify as cute, but it is sort of funny. I used to have a German Shepherd named Smokey, and when he was young he would pull ornaments off the Christmas tree every year and chew them up (no, we never used glass ornaments). So I see him standing in the living room one day, and he’s got a piece of tinsel hanging from his ass. I walk up behind him and ZIP!..pull it out. I have never seen a dog jump like that.
