I like to recline on the couch and surf the web on my computer that sits on the coffee table. My outstretched arm rests on the PowerBook. SO’s cat has come up with a ‘new thing’ when he wants attention: He’ll come over and put his right paw on my arm and give a little meow. She’d never seen him do that before, and he only does it to me. She thinks it’s adorable.
I also let him walk all over me. He’s just a little heavy, and when he climbs on her he steps on her boobs and the concentrated weight hurts. But if he’s climbing on me and decides to stand on a rib, I just give him a little nudge. Then he’ll curl up in his ‘fort’ – the crook of my knees. When he gets all in my face she says she has no sympathy for me because I let him do it.
My cat loves me and only me. He is happy to be cuddled by anyone else and reacts in a very purry way - numerous people have said to me that he’s the best cat ever - but he never volunteers for it. The second I sit in my armchair, he comes and sits on my lap and puts his arms around me.
But I work from home at that exact armchair, so he often isn’t allowed to sit and cuddle me. To cope, he lies on the arm of the chair and rests either his head or paw on my shoulder.
He also opened his own Christmas present. Ignored all the others except my daughter’s Beano album, then came up for his.
Oh, and he is fascinated by Star Wars. We’ve actually rewatched it a couple of times just to see his reaction.
One of our cats, Baggins, comes to get a hug, ever so often. He MUST have a hug when I get up in the morning, and at various times throughout the day. He jumps up on the chair, and stands up on his hind legs, and reaches out for me. Then, when I wrap my arms around him, he does the same, and we hug. He doesn’t do this with anyone else. He’s spoiled rotten. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
Cute things my cats do? Oh, let me count the ways…
Yogi is a polydactyl, and when I pick him up he starts makin’ biscuits with those big ol’ paws. If I could only teach him to do it on my back…
When I’m at my desk, Cricket sits up and puts her head on my shoulder.
Mr. Spock sits up on his wide-load butt and begs for attention. If I reach down to pet him, he flops over for belly-rubbin’. Since he weighs almost 30 lbs, there are acres and acres of belly available for rubbins.
Sugar Magnolia is the kissin’ bandit. She will kiss you if she gets close to your face, and if you’re not careful she’ll slip you some tongue.
My cat Rika is usually a huge bore (although a really nice and loving cat). But every once in a while, she gets a bug up her ass and just tears around the house with her eyes wide and her ears pulled back like a maniac. She’ll run and jump and look at you for like 2 seconds perfectly still, then run away and jump and run. This happens a few times a year and it’s absolutely insanely hilarious when she does.
Oh, my Max is quite the cut up. He steals all my tealight candles and hides them and now he is taking my pot poirri and hiding that too. I just know he is planning a romantic interlude…
He loves to be held. If you are not paying him enough attention, he will jump and attach himself to your chest or back or head with his claws. He will not be denied! Good thing he is cute cause that hurts if you aren’t wearing enough layers.
Cassy is Hubby’s cat. She sleeps under the covers with him, but when he’s at work, she sleeps in the other bedroom. When she was a kitten, she’d sleep on my shoulder, and she sometimes reverts to that if I’m sitting in “her” chair.
Max is my big, dumb guy. he sits up and he shakes hands. He sleeps with his head in my hand, if it’s outside the covers. Sometimes, it’s so crowded in the bed, one of the humans has to go sleep in the guest bed.
at casa scubaqueen, we have what i call ‘drive-by kitten,’ courtesy of miss widget, who’s now about 20 weeks old. it’s like living with a toddler - with fur.
i’m usually sitting on the couch minding my own business, reading, watching tv, working on the laptop. she strikes when i’m at my most quiet. she may or may not stalk me from across the room. sometimes i see her coming - and… sometimes i don’t.
next thing i know i have a faceful of kitten who will then do one of several fun things: nip my nose, lick my face - or stick her nose in my eye.
then she runs up and away along the back of the couch like her tail’s on fire.
(While tearing around) - "They’re HERE! In OUR HOUSE!!! The aliens have landed, and they’re taking over everyone’s MINDS!!!
(while staring at you) - “Is Drew infected? Must check!”. Rika jumps up and stares. “Hmm… no forked tongue. No pointy ears. Still wearing that shirt I clawed up the other day in the laundry basket. I think he’s OK. Better go check the others!!!”
One of our furballs (Peanut Butter) loves the Christmas tree. She staked out a spot underneath in the presents, and would spend hours there, as if to say, “I’m so special, I don’t need to be wrapped up as a present”.
The other one is a royal, neurotic, noisy, fur-bearing pain in the ass. She wants to be petted, reassured, fed, let in, let out, noticed, left alone, fed some more… Dog help one of us when she gets old and sick and really cranky. One of us is not going to handle it well, and here’s a hint - I know where the cat carrier is kept.
Bear is our not-so-big-anymore boy. He was at 14 pounds until we literally rescued Tori from the jaws of death. Tori is about 6 or 7lbs, but she terrifies Bear. If he hears her collar (he can tell her apart from the third cat Serendipity), he will run for the kitchen, open the cabinet where we keep plastic bags, snake in and let the door slam behind him and then curl up safely protected. He’s getting better, though he is still unreasonably frightened of her. On the upside, he’s lost about 3 lbs from eating less and getting chased by Tori who is just playing. Cracks me up though when I hear a jingle, then patta-patta-patta. Pause. creak. thunk of him hiding.
Serendipity hates referees. If I’m watching football or basketball, she’ll hop onto the TV stand and bat her paw at the refs for some reason. At first I would dissuade her with a hiss, but I let her go as I realized she keeps her claws in.
