This just found in my local paper on-line: the perils of cyberchondria.
Anyone either think they have this, or they know someone who does?

Uh oh, I think I might have cyberchondria! AHHHHHHHHHHH!
Take 2 aspirin, but DON’T call me in the morning, m’kay?
I thought cyberchondria would be more like someone thinking his PC is on the point of self-destruction because of various insignificant anomalies.
Cyberchondria sounds remarkably like this article. The Onion.
Intriguing, Francesca. Near as I can see, the Independent in the UK had the story on April 18. NZ Herald reprinted it on April 28.
Has anyone got an appearence date for The Onion’s article?
Okay. Seems Melissa W’s case was on the NBC news October 7, 1999. The case was later included in The Journal Record of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, in the article, “Cyberchondria: Don’t Catch Internet Disease”.
Recently, the BBC took up the story again. If The Onion article dates from, say, last month, this may have been what triggered it.
It’s definitely not as recent as that - I’ve been reading The Onion since some the middle of last year and that article was in the archives back then. Just coincidence i think.
