"Cyberian" Wars? (info for the newbie would be appreciated.)

All of this innuendo and mixed messages are driving me mad!!

Who is this “Cyberian”? What are these things that this someone has done to leave such a reputation?

I do not know everything, but I can tell you what I know. Maybe you can read this before it is silenced.

Cyberian was Cyberian54 a screen name on the old AOL SDMB. He was very abrasive and was eventually reported to AOL for TOS violations that his screen name was revoked. I think he came back as another name, but did not stick around.

On one run-in I had with him, I had asked an innocent question about Jews and sacrificing of animals as they were instructed to do. CK and others answered my posts honestly and nicely, but Cyberian (John) attacked me saying that I was trying to stir up trouble on the board. I did not know about him, I assured him that I meant no harm and was just curious. CK and others accepted my statements but John kept pushing the issue.

I never reported him for TOS, and I am not sure what all he did that did get him reported for TOS, but he did get booted. His profile is still up on Opal’s page (last I looked).

Wilson and Lockean and PerkyDan are also names that occasionally come up as bad memories.

Others like Opal, Tomndebb, CK, RangerJeff, Tuba, Drain Bead, etc. could likely fill you in better. Most of these people were gone or almost gone by the time I started on the AOL boards.

And let’s not forget those crazy Khazars! heh The Khazars, the Khazars, the Khazars. The Khazars.

Anybody who misses Lockean/WilsonSA terribly can still find him as a regular poster on alt.fan.cecil-adams. And George still likes to tweak him as always.

Definitely do not miss him. Don’t even really know him, just know the disdain some seemed to feel for him.

I should have added Phil to the list of those who could tell you more. Sorry Phil.

John (Cyberian54) and I started posting regularly on the AOL SDMB back in December 1997 (or was it '96?). We arrived at about the same time. I thought he was okay, but he did have a knack for stirring up trouble and eliciting flames from a lot of the board members. His habit was to copy someone else’s ENTIRE post and then add a small comment at the end of it, and he was a prolific poster. This made for a lot of “I agree” posts. I don’t know why he lost his AOL account.

But anyway, the past is the past, and should he return (or if he’s already returned), I’d like to welcome him back.

John made a few posts at the very beginning of this board.
I really believe he is a reason the BBQ Pit was invented.
I also believe he had the ability to reduce threads into flame wars. It wasn’t a healthy atmosphere.

I remember AmplSample. And MattBernst. And…uh, who was the children’s lib guy who said we were being ageist?

That would have been Ben, or ETABBA.

Later on, Cyb (using the screen name “Optamissed”) joined forces with a notorious SDMB moron and troll called “Chevy55SS.” They both had the most amazing persecution complexes (Chevy was actually part of a whole group of trolls that encompass a separate saga), and came up with wild conspiracy theories about the running of the SDMB. Chevy helped Cyb get back online when he was first banned; and the two of them complained to the Chicago Reader about their treatment by AOL/SDMB, and are convinced they helped get the area shut down.

Well, that explains it. Remember that thing down at the bottom of the TOS that requires you to post only your disagreements? (Actually, I don’t, either, but an awful lot of people seem to have read it!)

There is no way to really explain exactly how awful Cyberian was… but he was really foul. A very mild taste of it can be found on the TM Other board archives http://fathom.org/cgi-bin/sdmb_archive.pl

Polycarp: Well, that was actually one of his more harmless, if annoying, habits. He also advanced the theory (started a long-running thread, in fact) that the present-day Jews were actually descendents of a group called the “Khazars” and thus didn’t have any claim on the Holy Land. This did not endear him to the Jews on the board…

Bumped because it is part of our history and should not be lost. No reopening of old wounds was intended, though.

And not to be dwelt on now, either.
