Nah. Cars are (relatively) cheap because they’re made on assembly lines, but that hasn’t stopped a gazillion makes and models from appearing.
Plus I like the idea that some storm troopers may be Ferrarris while others are Yugos. Well, actually, more like some are Yugos while others are Trabants. What else would you expect from the Evil Empire? 
Didn’t you see T3? Skynet can perform the exact same trick. Moreover, their infantry models would wipe the floor with the toasters. However, it comes down to which side can start orbital bombardment first, and Skynet is a one-planet organization.
Actually, I think they just hit the Sandcrawler: Obi-Wan makes some remark about the shots being too neatly grouped for it to be Sandpeople, so we know that Imperials can actually hit something the size of an office block with reasonable accuracy.
I saw T3, but don’t remember it that well. I guess if they both can do the virus thing, then definitely, the T-1000’s would clean up.
