So Trump, when asked about pardoning Changpeng Zhao (Binance) claimed “I don’t know who he is”.
From NYT - “His (CZ) companies have partnered with firms linked to Trump on new digital-currency projects including Dominari Holdings, where his sons sit on the board of advisers and which is based in Trump Tower.” They guy is a billionaire brokering deals with the Trump cartel. “I don’t know who he is”. How stupid does he think we are?
How in the world was he not challenged aggressively? (I know why. I’m just sayin’). Was it an Autopen pardon? Dems should be howling about this Hell, everybody should be howling. Except Mike Johnson, since he also knows nothing about it and didn’t see the interview. Enrich Trump and you are pardoned. Cross him and he sues you or threatens your business with Fed regulators. Right CBS? Its that simple. Absolute corruption and bald faced lies right in front of your face.
Very. The answer is “very.” Either stupid, too intimidated to challenge him, or not in a position to challenge him to his face.
Donald is fully confident that he can lie blatantly and get away with it. (In this case, he doesn’t want to try to defend the indefensible: the pardon of the extremely-shady Changpeng Zhao).
Clearly Norah O’Donnell wasn’t going to be the one to challenge Donald’s “lapse of memory.” And it’s likely no one will (not to his face, anyway).
A large proportion of the public are very, very stupid.
Many are in the cult of Trump; He can do nothing wrong.
Quite a few will never, ever hear about this, because they are wrapped up in their warm cozy media bubble.
And then the intimidated or cowards.
That leaves (in my estimation) about 10% of the public who will be disgusted by this blatant lie about a pardon for sale.
I tried to take one for the team and watch it, but I shut it off about 3 minutes in, fast-forwarded my DVR to the segment on the Guinness Book of World Records, and then deleted it.
His memory clearly isn’t what it used to be. It’s quite possible he actually has no idea who they’re talking about and was just given a paper and told “sign this” by one of his underlings.
“I don’t know who that is” and “I’ve never heard of it” are a couple of Trump’s go-to deflections when he’s trying to get himself out of trouble.
Remember Anthony Scarmucci, his original communications director in his first term? Trump claimed he barely knew the guy, even though he personally appointed Scarmucci. He’s also claimed not to know Prince Andrew, even though they toured Westminster Abbey together, and Andrew hosted a breakfast for him. He claimed not to know Stormy Daniels. When ambassador Gordon Sondland testified under oath during the first impeachment inquiry about a quid pro quo between Ukraine and the Trump administration, Trump said “This is not a man I know well,” even though Sondland said they spoke frequently.
It’s S.O.P. for Trump. His mental capacity is declining, but he’s been playing this same game for years.
