Czarcasm: having a bit of a power trip?

Not every one of those five bajillion ways of jerkdom is available as a bright, shiny button on the right hand side of your browser everytime you click “Post Reply.” (It is also the closest smilie to the input window and it’s winking at you.) If something as ubiquitous as a smilie is going to be a problem in all but one forum, this should be made plain. IMHO, it’s fucking stupid to have a smilie that is winking and smiling be considered an insult; and if it is considered an insult outside of all but one forum, then it’s fucking ridiculous to have it in the first place, given that “You GOATFELCHING MOTHERFUCKER!” is just as functional in that capacity as a smilie.

Jeez, the damn thing is winking. Anyone that can’t understand it’s meant as a playful tease is a moron whom we’re better off without. Just another example of the dumbing-down of the SDMB.

If the Wally is to be officially interpreted as an insult, and only usable in the Pit it’s pretty damn worthless given that we routinely call each other necrophiliac sowfuckers.

Just get rid of the damn thing.

After submitting: what Ilsa said.

I’d rather we just get rid of them all. Yeah, I use them occasionally but I feel dirty every time I do. They’re annoying, distracting, and entirely superfluous.

Death to all smileys.

What kind of goat felchers use it these days anyway? Ban it now.

No shit! I didn’t know that, as you’ve only told the entire interfuckingnet and his dog about your board.
You can ban all smileys for all I care.

Yes! Sound the battle call!

Death to all fanatics!

~escapes~

Very rarely do I post to these kinds of things, but yeah, if the “Putz” smiley can only be used 1/9 of the time you’re on the SDMB, pitch it. Unless we want to go to modifying the POST REPLY function so much that a given smiley simply isn’t accessible in a certain forum, sayonara.

Not that I use smileys a whole helluva lot anyway, but for what it’s worth, the “Putz” feels like ribbing to me, not a full-on flame-throwing insult. It’s teasing your friend out of a bad mood, not slapping someone with a glove and looking for the pistols. Apparently, YMMV.

I too. Especially since I didn’t know what “putz” or “wally” refered to. This smiley looked friendly, and I assumed it expressed something like “I’m jokingly pretending I despise you”.

Why I don’t automatically assume it’s an insult, 99% of the usage I’ve seen has been in a derogatory way, and from context, rarely seems to be in a good-natured ribbing way.

Maybe we should call it the “fundie” smilie.

What, the one thread by permission and then the post in this thread which has fun with and thus is related to Bricker’s comment? That’s “[telling] the entire interfuckingnet and his dog…”? If so, you probably need to get out more; you know, live a little. Tell you what, why don’t you sign up on my board, eh? It’s dedicated to loving the Beatles. It’s nothing but threads on how cool they were and how everything musical stemmed from them, etc…

You’ll love it.

Oh, and paulberserker, did you know I started my own board? No, really, I have.

Let’s get rid of the “wally” and replace it with “puking smiley.” (Maybe a “mr. yuk” smiley would be even more effective.) I’ve needed a “puking smiley” several times over the past week and a half; I don’t think I’ve ever used a “wally.”

Sooooo… does that mean we can’t use wally even when referring to ourselves in other forums besided the pit?

Um, don’t ya think that the decision to deem the smiley expressly created to memorialize one of the most beloved posters ever to grace these boards an insult is, mayhaps, misguided?

Sua

So we’re not allowed to use it teasingly, or affectionately, as in, “Oh, you putz you!”

Just another reason why we should change our country’s name to the United States of the Offended.

Let’s try to get the sarcastic smiley banned next.

The :wally is winking because it’s a tribute to a beloved poster who passed away a few years ago. He was famous for using Putz at the end of posts.

But I can see why new posters would think it’s used in a joking manner, since they don’t know the story behind it.

SuaSponte, I don’t know how I missed your post. :smack:
