Czarcasm WTF?

Exactly.

You can’t just admit you made the wrong call locking that thread eh? Way to be a grown up.

I disagree. There appears to be no intent in the OP to deride a member of the board. He was asking a question about a particular behavior, and if that behavior qualified as assholish.

Czarcasm, you said “If you want to pit a poster, do it in The BBQ Pit.” But he didn’t wish to pit the poster. He wished people’s opinions on that behavior. From his OP:

He didn’t name the poster or point at the original thread. He only cited the story insofar as to describe the situation he was wishing people to evaluate.

I think you overreacted. You could also have moved his thread to the Pit rather than closing it, if you felt JohnT outing himself made the thread no longer acceptable in IMHO.

I do agree, however, with Gfactor’s action in this thread. And Miller closing the thread in the Pit.

  1. The title of the thread was Is this customer an asshole?, and once it was made known that “the customer” was a current poster, it belonged in The BBQ Pit, whether that poster mentioned in the thread minded or not(see Kimmy Gibbler’s post above).
  2. If there wasn’t a poll attached, I certainly would have moved it to The BBQ Pit myself.

What if the thread title had been “Is this behavior assholish?”

Perhaps, if the person described in the account wasn’t immediately recognizable as a poster(directly quoting the post was the big giveaway in this case.)

OK, that makes sense. I can see how the poll precluded moving it out of IMHO.

I thought we were not supposed to call posters names outside of the pit.

Y’know, I’ve always wondered where I would transfer a thread titled “Ask the asshole”.

ATMB, obviously.

I think “Is this behavior acceptable?” or “Is this behavior rude?” would be a better way of setting up that thread. Regardless of his intention, the way Cubsfan phrased his OP, it becomes an invitation to turn the thread into a referendum on another poster, as opposed to a question about a particular behavior.

ouch!

How much of a poll’s attributes can you change as a mod? I think I’ve seen mods add/subtract options before - can you change the “this poll ends on _________” date? Then you could move it, and change the end date to yesterday, effectively shutting down the poll part of the thread. (Or you guys could just move polls to the Pit that belong there.)

I actually believe moving a poll thread to the Pit would automatically close it. I believe I’ve seen it happen before. It sounds more like Czarcasm just didn’t want it to appear to be a poll and then people not be able to vote. Or something like that.

Pretty much. In my opinion it would have just been easier all around to start a new thread in The BBQ Pit.

In case it was necessary,

Catch even more with a steaming turd.

So, how would this be:

Thanks for the prick-headed move of closing my thread for no reason.
…Now go reopen my thread, or I will continue to consider your decisions jerkish, you average, likeable but fallible, person, you!

?

(I’m just saying.)

Civil discussion of moderator activities belong in ATMB.
Pitting of Mods about their non-mod opinions belong in The BBQ Pit.

Okay.

At any rate, ordering mods to do your bidding is counterproductive. As should be obvious.

Even were these policies not in place.
