I think “Is this behavior acceptable?” or “Is this behavior rude?” would be a better way of setting up that thread. Regardless of his intention, the way Cubsfan phrased his OP, it becomes an invitation to turn the thread into a referendum on another poster, as opposed to a question about a particular behavior.

So the issue is by choosing the label “asshole” and “assholish”, it changes the subtext in a way that a description of the behavior as “rude” or “tacky” wouldn’t. But because the post cited was from this board, that automatically makes the source a board member, so any characterization turning towards “assholish” aims the thread at the proscribed attacks on board members.

The issue is we don’t get to call each other assholes outside of the Pit (or ATMB, but only when directed at mods).

We get to do it in MSPIMS.
