Good thread, Czarcasm, and I hope you don’t mind that I ran off with a whole bunch of suggestions. But good gods, people actually like that awful Santa, Baby song? That is the worst song, ever. I can’t stand any of their whining voices, and I wish the song would burn in a fire!
We are talking Eartha Mroww! Kitt here. I would gladly spend an hour listening to her gargle!
Yeah, my wife and I love that song, the Eartha Kitt version, anyway. She plays a very well-developed character in that performance.
Eeyugh. I’m sure I might like it better if it was a man singing in a nice deep baritone. I prefer deeper, strong voices, even in women. But then the song might get really weird.
The one that icks me is Baby, It’s Cold Outside, which seems to me to be about date rape.
A male Santa Baby?
As you wish.
Flirting and persuasion doesn’t equal date rape.
“This video is currently unavailable.” But I’ll search for it at home.
It plays for me-sorry.
Yeah, until she says “Say, what’s in this drink?” He’s getting her all liquored up.
The Christmas Song -Johnny Mathis.
Actually his whole Christmas album is darn near perfect. Sleigh Ride. Silver Bells.
I went and looked up the lyrics to Baby it’s Cold Outside. I don’t agree it’s date rape. Yes, he’s totally trying to convince her to stay, but she wants to be convinced.
I just hope they have a condom or four!
“Christmas All Over Again” - Tom Petty
and
“Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” - The Reverend Horton Heat
“Christmas With The Devil” - Spinal Tap
“Osama Got Run Over By A Reindeer” - Bob Rivers
“Chanukah Under The Stars” - Fountains of Wayne
They may be nontraditional, but they ain’t parodies.
Try Calista Flockhart.
Frosty The Snowman
Baby It’s Cold Outside
White Christmas
The Christmas Song
Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

I actually tend to prefer instrumentals. Mannheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra have done most/all of these and make great background music for parties. Lots of good memories of putting Mannheim or TSO on the PA at the theatre and using it as background during set builds during the holiday season. I’m especially a fan of unusual instrumentation, so that factors into my enjoyment of their renditions.
A classic that I’m surprised isn’t already on your list - “Silver Bells” I’m fond of the Bing Crosby version, but that’s just because of how effortless he makes it seem when he sings when I know exactly how hard it really is.
As for other choices, have you considered more contemporary? I have two suggestions. “Little Drummer Boy” by Bob Seger, a great rendition of a classic. And the Goo Goo Dolls, “Better Days” which is a really nice departure from their regular style of punk or alt rock.
Enjoy,
Steven
Frosty The Snowman- The Beach Boys
Baby It’s Cold Outside- Dean Martin
White Christmas- Michael Buble and Shania Twain
The Christmas Song- The Velvet Fog
Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree- She & Him.
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town- The Crystals
Please Come Home For Christmas- The Eagles
Santa Baby- Eartha Kitt
And no Jingle Bells on your list? I like Barry Manilow (not too often I type those words).
Thanks for the recommendations on Michael Buble! I like him in general.
Will be buying a bunch of these tonight and tomorrow, thanks.
Exactly, they’re flirting.
