Czarcasm's Junior Modding in ATMB

Once in a great while a suggestion from the peanut gallery is accepted and implemented.

For example, when “official” moderator actions are taken in a post, they are supposed to do so under the banner “moderating”. It wasn’t always that way.

Wasn’t there some after holiday weekends?

I’m highly amused that BigT thinks the mods are all the best of chums…

But don’t take forever; come on!

There have already been many given.

Here’s the problem, most of the rules around here are not ‘bright lines’. A rule can be considered broken (and thus actionable) because a mod says so. **Tom **came in here and looked at Czarcasm’s posts provided by others and hand-waved them away. They weren’t jr. modding by definition because a mod said so (I note by the way that Tom said “not really”. A little wiggle room? Why not just say “no” if they weren’t?).

Also, others in this thread have tried to characterize jr. modding as threatening other posters. It is that for sure but JM can be more than that.

Many of those examples posted in this thread have been posted in similar form by us ‘regular’ posters and gotten noted for it. Here’s an example: in this thread, Ravenman asked that the mods take a look at jabs he thought were inappropriate, “I think the jabs at West Virginians in this thread deserve moderator attention.” (which proved to be true as they received a mod not)

But for his remark, Ravenman also got a note for “jr. modding”.

I agreed with Ravenman that a mod should look at those posts. Myentire postconsisted of one word: “Seconded”. I received a mod note for jr. modding.

If agreeing with another poster that offensive posts should be evaluated by a mod is jr. modding, how in the world are the numerous examples of Czarcasm’s posts not jr. modding?

Another example:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=13435941#post13435941 - pseudotriton ruber ruber warned for junior modding for saying:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=14926628 - **Czarcasm says:

No warning.

pseudotriton is warned for saying someone is threadshitting. Czarcasm does the same thing, and isn’t warned.

This whole thread in a nutshell , for me at least.

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=15546292&postcount=2

Obvious junior modding and a moderately jerkish post.* No warning, no mod note
*Czarcasm has the idiotic delusion that if he posts his junior modding and snark in the form of a question, it’s somehow ok.

Look - problem solved!

Everyone o.k. with closing this thread?

After reading the cites brought to attention by PlainJain and elmwood, I take back what I said about the junior modding. I need to stay out of this particular discussion.

You should stop junior czarcasming.

I thought it was a good question and I didn’t think it was junior modding. Hottius Maximus is pretty new here, but that was obviously the wrong forum. I agree this thread has just about run its course. We don’t need a thread that lists every single Czarcasm post that someone feels is junior-modding.

Of course you do. So you’re giving blanket ok to anyone else asking that question to posters? I strongly doubt it.

He’s not a mod. Why is it ok for him to question a poster’s posting choices/decisions?

Look, I certainly don’t want to be a jerk for jerk’s sake so I’ll bow out of this part of it. But some, including a mod, have asked for examples. When given they are waved away so more are given. That’s why it has turned into this. Would it really be that hard to look at the given examples and admit he is given a little (lot?) more posting latitude than others?

For the record I have nothing against Czarcasm as a regular poster. But his rude jr. modding always seem to sour the flavor of the threads he posts them in. Especially in this forum.

Why not, when another moderator specifically asked for examples of exactly that?

I might actually believe him on this one. When **juck **started a thread entitled:
“Are tattoos way overplayed by now?” in IMHO, Marley’s response was a curt:
“Does it matter?”

Try to get away with that sometime.

He could just as easily reported the thread for a forum change, and even announced that he did, if he felt it was in the wrong forum.

Isn’t that what we’ve been told to do?

Why wouldn’t that be OK? He didn’t accuse him of anything or say he’d broken a rule. He asked why he posted a thread about Gilligan’s Island to Great Debates. I thought that was a good question.

Curtness is not against any rule. And as I explained in that thread and in emails or private messages, that’s not threadshitting. I was not dismissing the topic and hoped the OP would actually try to answer the question, which didn’t happen.

tomndebb asked for examples, and said the ones that have been posted don’t really substantiate the accusation (I agree). I said I’m not keeping this thread open as a running tally of every time someone thinks Czarcasm has junior-moderated. We have thread reports for that.

He did report the post, and so did several other posters because the thread was very obviously in the wrong forum. Now, given that the OP said “Okay so maybe this isn’t a “great debate”” and there is another forum for questions about TV shows, what was wrong with asking the OP why he posted it in Great Debates?

I was with you until elmwood and Jane’s posts above. Other people got Noted for “Jr. Modding” for doing exactly what Czarcasm does. I don’t think any of it is actual Jr. Modding but there is a lack of consistency. If what those guys did was actionable, then the other should be as well.
