I’ll give you a hand, and a few gold if need be. Seems like a good plan.
“Really?”
Osvald is stunned, and slightly more confident now. His Viking Brethren actually believes in HIS plan! Huzzah! Off to find some Rabbits indeed!
Ulf thinks it’s harmless to pop a few rabbits on board (at least they’re not Owlbears  ). However Henrik, Redbeard and a load of thralls might notice the delivery; rabbit droppings will appear; and even the rabbits might be spotted on a 60 foot long boat…
Why not take pride in your idea and tell us about it!
It’s no trouble at all to find live rabbits for sale in the market at a pittance. It certainly won’t cost gold - more like a few coppers.
As for Ulf’s beartooth necklace, a vigil before a Viking shrine would be just the thing - the wilder and more out-of-the-way the better.
DM, can I assume Ulf has his necklace and Osvald has released his rabbits?
Vikings, let’s put back into harbour and search the ship by hand.
Then as soon as Bjarni decides whether he wants the Plate, we can sail for Vectis.
If the party’s wanting to spend the money, we can buy the plate and I can use it. I think it’s too pricey, but I could stand to have it. Why don’t we haggle a bit, maybe try to keep one bar of platinum? Otherwise, let’s shove off.
didn’t someone say they have a haggle ability? Or am I mistaken.
Let’s buy the plate and move on.
Ulf can play Hnefatafl and has Weather Sense.
Haggling would be nice, but in any case we’re off to Vectis!
Ulf reminds his fellow Vikings what the Owlbear MU book said:
“…of the Lesser made in honour of the Thunderer (according to their pagan conceit), although much smaller and of less might than his fabled weapon. Certainly the craftsmanship, attributed to the Dvergar, was of exceptional merit. But most of these are now lost without trace. One, it is said, was buried beneath the sacrificial slab when the Northmen established a shrine on Vectis, but they worship there no longer; it is many years since the beach at Keyhole Cove was ground beneath the keel of the serpent. If ever the power of the Aesir lay upon that place, neglect has surely seen it expire, for in that place are now only reports and rumours of the dead that walk, and worse creatures besides. The folk of Vectis go not there by land or sea.”
Not only are there suggestions of Magic items and Uddead, but there’s also a possible shrine for Ulf to undertake his vigil!
Osvald looks up from buying his Rabbits extra cheap… :dubious:
“Oh yeah, that’d be me. I’ve got the Haggle skill. Should I try to use it? I don’t mind trying if you think it’d be useful. Just take me along and i’ll give it a shot. Haggling certainly makes it easier to buy foreign Teas… and rabbits. Don’t see why I can’t try it on other things.”
Ulf offers to go along with Osvald for protection.
…
(That’s protecting Yacub from ear-ache! )
He’s willing to throw in a potion of fire resistance as a sweetener, but he’s not prepared to budge further.
Nicely done, Osvald. Any potion is worth having.
So we swap our metals and gems for the (+1) Plate and Fire Resistance Potion.
Bjarni, do you want to sell your old Armour?
Ivar, do you want to hold onto the potion for now?
We now have acquired:
Bjarni … (+1) Plate
Ulf … (+2) Battle Axe
Sorely … Horn of Summoning
Osvald … Spellbook
We can search the ship by hand, then sail to Vectis.
I think we should keep the old armor for now.
Sorely will do a Legend Lore check on the horn when the ship takes sail.
Also, can we check for a map of the Vectis coast before we leave port? Lets try to not sail blind. Sorely will purchase the map to contribute to the voyage.
Lets go make, and possibly raid, some new friends!!
No maps, but there is a settlement on the nearest point on the island.
Hey, can I use it?
Osvald is all for releasing the rabbits loose onto the ship, but will attach Bells to them, so we can hear them in the dark, and they won’t scare us (which he’ll explain to the group, so that Jorun will not be confused at night when he hears such things).
Also, he plans on keeping one or two of the smallest rabbits in his room as a pet (he doesn’t need to tell the others about this).
Room? A Viking longship is basically a large open boat - you have a few square feet that are considered “your” space, but nowhere that you could conceal a rabbit hutch.
You *can * - whether you may or not is up to the good Bjarni.
Ulf would like a nice cup of tea first thing in the morning, with some toast and a freshly squeezed glass of orange juice. The ‘Vest-Agder Herald’ is the best for news - international edition of course.
Also these silk sheets need changing…
More seriously, Ulf has a spare double-bladed Battle Axe (iron and silver).
He’s quite happy to keep it as a spare, but (considering the generosity of the party) if someone else would like to borrow it, Ulf would be honoured.
DM, I assume my splendid (+2) Axe will hit anything that my Iron / Silver Axe would have hit?
Vikings,
I’ve looked at the other two entries in the MU diary we found and they all seem to be about the Owlbear Amulet. (If anyone wants, I can post them…)
So it’s all about hints in the extract:
- ‘Lesser made in honour of the Thunderer …, although much smaller and of less might than his fabled weapon’
This could be a Magic Hammer, made by a worshipper of Thor?
If so, it could be just the ticket for Jorund!
DM, presumably we worship the Norse Gods?
‘One, it is said, was buried beneath the sacrificial slab when the Northmen established a shrine on Vectis but they worship there no longer; it is many years since the beach at Keyhole Cove was ground beneath the keel of the serpent.’
Hopefully the name of the Cove hasn’t changed…
‘in that place are now only reports and rumours of the dead that walk, and worse creatures besides…’
Aha! Combat!
Ivar, you can turn Undead, can’t you?
