D.G. Green's movie "George Washington" (2000)

I recently heard a little about the 2000 movie “George Washington,” written and directed by David Gorden Green, but haven’t seen it yet (and might never). Does it actually have anything to do with the first President? If so, what? I don’t mind spoilers.

I’m a history buff, and was just wondering.

Thanks.

No, it has nothing to do with the president. It’s a modern day drama in an urban setting.

Supposed to be pretty good. Haven’t seen it myself.

Why is it named after GW, then?

I haven’t seen it since the film came out, but I remember that the lead character (a young black boy) is named George (and his last name very well could be Washington, too). He aspires to greatness, which may connect to the other George, also. You also see a number of his friends, so it may also be the school they attend.

It is quite a good movie, but I’d only recommend it if you are patient sort, since it is a bit meditative, emphasizing character, mood and incident over a more linear story. Green’s follow-up films have also been excellent, too.
