I have just watched ‘The Patriot’ for, I think, the 5th time. And have still not spotted George Washington. He must be in there somewhere - he got a credit afterall!
Where is he?
Do you like that movie? Most of the UKer’s I speak to hate it with a passion… even more so than U-251 or whatever that sub/Enigma movie was.
I find it difficult to stomach Gibson’s acting in parts. but overall I liked the movie.
I do not let my patriotism, pride, whatever you want to call it, cloud my judgement of a good film.
(In fact the more I watch it the more I find myself routing for the Americans)
…And this time round - it inspired me to learn about the war of Independance - Amazon here I come!
Has been a while since I saw that rather bad movie (made all the worse in my mind because it had a lot of potential as far as the acting and the cinematography–too bad the script was so awful), but I remember wondering at one point whether someone they showed was supposed to be Washington: Sometime early in the movie Heath Ledger’s character is doing a voiceover reciting a letter he’s writing to his family (saying, as I recall, one battle while writing another), and he looks up and sees someone important-looking riding by him in the camp. I suspect that was intended to be Washington.
Didn’t Washington show up when they accepted the surrender of Cornwallis’s subordinate?
On this site they say that Terry Layman (who played Washington) was present in makeup at the Yorktown set, implying that he was in that scene, in which case I stand corrected.
