Dairy products aid in weight loss? How?

I’m sure you’ve heard of this by now. Supposedly, consuming more dairy products will somehow help you to lose some weight. Is this just a marketing ploy, or is there really something to it?

Substituting low-fat or non-fat foods for higher fat foods will certainly help you lose weight. This is true for dairy foods, so they can be advertised that way.

Check the Milk Burns Fat website, which takes you to this National Dairy Council study page. That page cites claims that higher calcium intake may regulate body weight, a somewhat lesser claim than milk burns fat.
