Dairy Wars - A Milky Morning Post

and no, I don’t particularly care that I’m the 3rd person to tell you.
btw - did you know that was Bacall’s first movie and Howard Hawkes made her stand outside in the chill night air and read out loud to get that sexy smokey voice

Another bit of Lauren Bacall trivia: She is famous for “The Look” . She was so nervous that her chin wouldn’t stop quivering, so she tucked her chin into her shoulder and looked up. Cinematic icon created through nervousness!

I love that movie! [Walter Brennan voice] Was you ever bit by a dead bee?[/WBV]

Sneezy

I’m meeting local guy tonight at a diner. Heck, I gotta eat anyway, so why not have a conversation too?

The mind reels. Here’s a bit of helpful advice: stay in physics. Don’t write a novel.

Please.

Laundry room 90% done and I have lost all ambition. I am slightly pissed off by something happening elsewhere on this board, but I won’t go into it here. Work in AM-can I get a sympathy post?

Thought not.

Taking my crabby, pissed off self off to grouch at RL kids and such. Phooey.

Cold snap! It just dropped down to 91 degrees, and a thunderstorm is coming! We had fun at the dog park, Maggie the Wonderbeagle got kudos for not being a basket case. Maggie’s favorite postman was just on the news: Postal Carriers Brave the Heat.

Jahdra, congrats! I’m glad you’re doing better.

Mika,Spats, cut it out or I will send you both to your rooms!

rosie, I drink coffee like that. I had a Bruegger’s Bagels next door to my last job. It was Javannah.

gt, listen to [del]your mom[/del] rigs.

gotti, Yah DH! That last manager may have need the bars if the seniors went three years without Matlock.

I’m here. Sorta. It’s been crazy at work. I’ve been on a project that should have taken a day and it’s been about a week and a half and counting. And other things keep getting thrown at me and I’m off on Friday. Gah!

At least it’s cooled off here. I’ve actually had the windows open!

Have fun on your dinner date rosie!

Speaking of dinner, well supper actually, cause where we ate you don’t get dinner, you get supper. ACBG and I went down to this wonder soul food place to get some supper. Now, I’m used to seeing stuff such as oxtails, neckbones, chitlins and the like there. They serve stuff like that, cause, well, it’s a soul food place. Tonight, however, I saw a new one… chicken feet and rice. Ok, I’ve seen chicken feet in the grocery store before. I kinda wondered just what one would do with a mess o’ chicken feet. Now I know, they are boiled and served with rice. No I did not have any. I had liver and onions cause I’ve been wantin’ me some liver and onions but I do not like to cook liver and onions cause it’s messy to cook. Plus, liver grosses somebody out, so, of course, I had to eat it in front of him. He’s home doing paperwork tonight, poor thing.

The mopheads are being returned for credit. I’m nice and will do that. I still do not understand how they could not have known there would be metal. Again, how the heck else ya gonna slap on a mophead. For some reason 42" mopheads have become all the rage in commercial janitorial supplies. It’s all we can do to keep up with the demand. Oh and box guy was rightly impressed with our speediness in getting him his desired two boxes of boxes. He was also rightly impressed to know that the part of his order that was not a rush will be ready by the end of the day tomorrow. We’re good. The best even. No brag, just fact.

HI!!!

::waving::

Between Monday golf, and the Leadership Team retreat, and the “social” gathering after yesterday’s session, and tonight’s concert, and tomorrow’s last day of retreat, followed by yet another “social” (read: drinking) session, it’ll be Friday, mid day before I’ll probably be here again.

I miss you guys!

::runs to shower after workout, and before going to sit in 90 degree heat, wondering what’s the use??::

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Rosie, the way I look at it now is that like any chronic illness, I just had to hang on until they came up with an effective way to treat it. I’ve been hospitalized multiple times, lived in a group home for two years, had a ton of therapists and been on lots of different meds. In fact, in high school, they wrote me off - no possibility of recovery or hope for a normal life. But ideas change, therapies evolve, medications are invented and what was previously untreatable becomes treatable. What made the biggest difference, though, was California’s mental health parity law. By state law, mental illness has to receive equivalent treatment and coverage to physical illnesses. Without that, I’d still be stuck with 20 psychiatric visits per year (or fewer) and bouncing in and out of the hospital on 72 hour holds, with no follow up care and a prescription that may help me or make me crazier. Or pay thousands and thousands of dollars out of pocket. Or both. Isn’t better for everyone if they pay out one big chunk and not only do I become healthy, I stop being a drain on the limited emergency psychiatric facilities? My soapbox, sorry. I think I have a calling as a mental health care advocate. Have to think about that some more.

We took two co-workers out to lunch for their birthday, but not the third birthday person. Naturally, she didn’t come to lunch. I wouldn’t buy other people birthday lunches on my birthday either, especially with no recognition of my birthday! I’m glad I’m leaving this little clique soon. It feels like 7th grade around here, although sometimes they make it all the way up to say, sophomore in high school.

Oh, and good luck on dinner tonight, rosie. I hope this one is more prince than frog.

Translation… MBG is on a two day drunk. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I’m up again, thanks for the nice thoughts. You made me laugh dogb; one of the managers in my department pretty much sent me home (I’m her boss, but I recognize that she is the one who must be obeyed; she’s bossy, a Mom, and has a bat). Also, my boss, who happens to be a physician, pretty much did the same. I included a last-second update in my last e-mail to him (I was making sure I didn’t have to worry from afar) and his response was something like: Thanks. Go home. (Have I mentioned I work with good people?)

I’ve been ingesting more fluids than possible, [del]Mom [/del]rigs. Hot, cool, clear, not so clear. I’m thinking the next fluid might be some soup, even if it’s hot out right now.

Glad to hear that DH likes the new job. There’s nothing like actually being appreciated to make a new job feel good.

Well, I’m off to watch movies and stuff. (And rest and ingest fluids.) Pretty darn exciting.

GT ::sprays Lysol in her wake even though what she has isn’t contagious::

Not only did I date one, briefly. I married one.

Hi. It’s been one of those days. But I’m home and that’s good. Therapy was really painful. I wish Tanya was back off vacation - she never hurts me. OK, and I’d quit taking my anti-inflammatory, but I’m taking it again.

So, Friday is sea trials and, barring unforseen bad stuff, it’s also the day we close on the purchase of the boat. I’m taking off work tomorrow and Friday - I need to splice some dock lines and I want to finish my batch of pottery.

Sorry I’m in a poopy mood. I suppose I could blame the heat. Or the gazillion bug bites on my legs. Or it’s just one of those days. Don’t mind me - I’ll just sit here quietly. This too shall pass…

So, is the Steve you dated briefly also the one you married or were there actually 2?

Watched another movie, did a few more crosswords, ate lime-chicken noodle soup. Am thinking I’ll crawl into bed and read some more Harry Potter. I’m kinda bored, but figure I’m supposed to be. This is what’s called resting. I’m not a resting kinda gal.

GT

Just one Steve. One is quite enough for me.

Nah, Mom already tried that last week and we just started up again.

Pics coming either tonight or tomorrow! (of the new place)

Fine, then you’re both on double secret probation. Have you found the centipede yet? If not, let Picante have a crack at it.

Ok, here are some of them. There are no pics of the living room or of the extra bedroom, nor of the downstairs bathroom. The first two because they didn’t come out well, and the last one because it’s a bathroom. Nothing special about it.

View From the Front

Backyard

Foyer and Dining room. You can just see the living room through the door, with the blue carpet. On the right it leads to…

Kitchen. Not a great pic.

Stairs, which lead to…

Loft Bedroom. I couldn’t get a long shot of this without standing out the window.

Ginormous Bathroom. Ok. The toilet and tub are to the right. I mean, not even in the picture. That is a big bathroom for a small apartment!

Front of house

Sunset on the way home, just for fun. Don’t mind the dead bugs or whatever on the windshield.

Hey, I have something to confess. Now that I’m an adult and I have a digital camera, I’ve realized something. My father was a really bad photographer. I feel like I’m blaspheming, because photography was such a hobby of his, but he was awful. Shadows in people’s faces, stuff in the way, the lighting’s all wrong. I’m not saying I’m good. As a matter of fact, the only reason mine come out any good (when they do) is because I have a digital and can take several shots. I just feel really bad about saying this about dear old Dad.

No, not yet. He’ll probably show up when we’re sound asleep in bed! And he’s almost as big as Picante.

Nice place!

Don’t feel bad re dear old Dad. My Dad put everything, and I mean everything on slides.
Gah.
Off to bath and read the newest P.D. James, and then read to #2 son. Work in AM. But then off for 4 days!

Weird note- I have a really good friend (we talk almost every day); she is unhappy in nursing, too-but has no way out as yet (husband just lost job). I hope we are not growing away from one another or that she is feeling left out with my joy re library school. I tried to call her during boot camp, but I only left two messages. I have tried to call her every day since I’ve been home, but all I get is her machine. This is unprecedented. I just hope she didn’t think I was ignoring her or trying to loosen ties with her during boot camp. I left messages saying that they had us busy in class all day etc, but haven’t heard from here again.

Just worrying out loud about this. Good friends are rare enough, I like to try to keep them when possible.

Is it my vision, or are the stairs pink? Other than that, really nice place!

My sister-in-law talked me into making polymer clay bead jewelry to sell on her website. I’ve made some really pretty beads, and strung them into bracelets, earrings and a couple of necklaces. SIL picked them up and took them over to a friend to photograph. She put the pics on the website tonight.

I am not happy.

The reason SIL wanted her friend to do the pics was because “she has all these professional lights”. Well, having them doesn’t mean you know how to use them. All of my jewelry looks really washed out - none of the colors show up well at all. I’m also not really pleased with the prices they put on them - but since SIL paid for the materials in this batch I really can’t bitch too much. Her website includes shipping in the price, and after paying postage the cost of the materials will barely be covered. The next batch I have ready for sale, I’m taking the pictures myself, and e-mailing them to her. Then she can pick up the jewelry, which will have a suggested price tag with each item or set. And if they don’t want to do it that way, they can find someone else to make the stuff for them. It wasn’t my idea to begin with.

I have an appointment to have my teeth cleaned tomorrow. I really, really don’t want to go, but Mr. SCL says I have to. Meanie.
