Good Morning all (well technically, I haven’t been to bed yet )-- just got home from a friend’s birthday party and a good time was had by all, drank a little beer, did a little karaoke, and enjoyed myself muchly.
Since this is my very first time starting, I thought I’d give y’all the opportunity to share something new you did or tried this week, a new recipe, even. Or something new you plan you do. After all, everyone keeps learning and growing week by week, no matter where you are in life.
Good morning all. Kids are home from camp. Great to have them back. It was the little girl’s first overnight camp and she didn’t stop talking all day yesterday about it! She is heartbroken over the missing cat. She’s going through the same thoughts I did last week- blaming herself for not being here, just so very sad. Held her at bedtime as she just cried and cried.
Weird thing, she was telling her friends last week that something was wrong with the cat. On the day he went missing. Freaky.
Something new? I think I might be starting my own business…!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN 'Tis 73 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of only 93! Why, the heat index might even stay out of triple digits! I may need a sweater.
Pearl nice OP! I did not try anything new last week. Well, there was this revised form at irk so that might count.
Soapy sorry kitty is still missin’ but do tell about the possible new bidness!
Now I shall seek out more caffiene and brekkie for rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence. ‘Tis Monday! Tonight is men’s night at the church house so I do have steaks marinatin’ and beer chillin’. I always look forward to that.
'mornin - not good yet. I didn’t fall asleep till after midnight, and I was awake shortly after 5. I tried to fall back to sleep, and since I’m here, you can tell how much luck I had at that. Gonna be a long day.
Nothing new in my life - everything I’m doing, I’ve done before - construction, painting, cleaning, cooking, chores. ugh. Best I can come up with is I tried a new sammich at Red Robin and it was quite tasty, if messy.
Today, I’ll be helping my daughter move the big stuff from last year’s classroom to the big one at the other end of the hall. She’s very excited - she’s lusted after this particular room for the last 2 years, but since the math teacher had seniority, she got the big room, even tho science needed the space. But the math teacher was moved to 4th grade, and the other 2 fifth grade teachers agreed that the big room would become the science room.
LOTS of stuff to move, some on wheels, most not. So we’ve got to take a furniture dolly and a hand truck. I foresee much sweating and some aching before it’s all over. Good times.
Good luck with the possible new business, Soapy! We tried a couple of times, but our business acumen sucks. Bookkeeping? hah! Regulations? Permits? Licenses? Seriously?? After our second spectacular failure (it’s tough when your business partner up and dies on you…) we decided we were destined to work for others. And so we did. It took a lot of years to put that debt behind us. But I’m not being snarky or trying to scare you. I sincerely wish you the best. I really admire people who can strike out on their own. We are not those people, however…
Pearl, I helped run a convention for 170 people, including trips from one end of the state to the other, now I need a vacation from my vacation(and some shots of Patron).
Soapy, hope you find kitty. And good luck on the business.
To get back to the OP, new in the last week was The Great Potato Competition. VWife found a recipe similar to Crash Hot Potatoes, and wanted to try it. She knew about CHP, but could not find the recipe. I, however, had a link on my computer.
We ended up making both. CHP was the easier recipe as far as exection, and the winner in my book.
Morning all. Am up and slowly caffeinating, since I don’t have anywhere to be today. My agency called me yesterday afternoon and told me that my assignment was over and not to go into work today. They did say that my bosses were extremely happy with me and actually have requested me back for another temp project to start in two weeks, so that’s something. I’ll have to go take some more skills testing early this week but I want to wait until someone from the agency has gathered my things from my desk and brought them back to the office. Le sigh.
So aside from re-trying unemployment this week, I have to get creative with some chicken recipes. My mom gave me 10 lbs. of chicken quarters, most of which is still frozen but I did boil up a few pieces over the weekend. I have some teryaki sauce so I’m thinking I’ll try my hand at chicken-fried rice and teryaki chicken for supper, then maybe chicken salad out of the rest of what is already cooked.
We had a nice, if dreary weekend. Friday evening the Fearless Husband and I spent some time at a friend’s house; they have a fire pit so we built a fire, made some s’mores and just chatted. That in itself was unusual since the husband always works Saturday mornings, we rarely do anything Friday nights. Saturday evening we went to the movies, and yesterday took a trip to the mall to get him some new work boots and had lunch at Panera. Yum!
Soapy, hoping kitty comes back home soon. Good luck on the new business! Are you willing to share any details yet?
My son just woke up, and decided it was the perfect time to get us up, too. I convinced him otherwise, but now can’t go back to sleep…
My newness of the week involves a new client. A hearty fellow who likes to laugh, tell dirty jokes, watch golf on tv and annoy his wife. He is also in the middle stages of Lou Gherig’s disease, which is like nothing I have ever seen before. I’ve signed up for the long haul on this one, so I guess I get to watch this man die in front of my eyes. That sucks shit big time.
But everything else is going good. Kids are healthy, the tire fire that is my wifes pms is finally burned itself out for the time being, and I am genuinely looking forward to starting school again in a few weeks. Spanish and math. We shall see how that goes.
I try new recipes all the time. On Saturday, I made a new chicken fried steak recipe. I had never done it this way before, and it turned out to be pretty darn good. But, in my usual style, I’ll be tweaking the recipe when I make it again.
Dropped my son off at college clear across the state. It was a hell of a long day; nearly a 600 mile round trip. It’s new having one of my kids so far from me for a prolonged period of time. He’s having a ball so far, though.
Soapy, I wish you every success in your venture. I just don’t have the guts to do something like that.
swampy, you don’t need a sweater, just don’t wear a shirt!
meow, did you put the piece of bread between two pieces of chicken?
In other news, I’ve decided that when I don’t know someone’s username, I’ll make it up. They’ll figure it out.
My life: I start a new job as a cashier in a cafeteria tomorrow, since I got desperate and they were the only ones who would hire me.
In the meantime, I’m supposed to have a phone interview for a job involving lots of travel and over double my current salary today, a recruiter called me (resume is on Monster.com) on Friday, and I was just CERTAIN it was a scam, but I went to the corporate webpage (fast-food restaurant) and there it was in all its glory.
And I also interview Thursday for my dream pharmacy tech job, at the cancer institute research place at the hospital, which is also the same hospital where I wanna go to pharmacy school. So hopefully my week will be full of good news, and I’ll have to make a difficult decision between a dream job in my career field, or something completely different that will help me pay off student loans with a quickness.
I had a four-day weekend and still had too much stress. My new thing for the weekend was joining a hiking meetup, which was led by someone from the cross-country skiing meetup that I go to in the winter. He had seemed like a nice enough guy, but he turned into a hiking dictator. It was a full moon hike so we met up while it was light, hiked while the sun set, and watched the moon rise. I had assumed that that would be it, and we’d go after that. Oh no. Everyone must stick together, and we have to walk at a snail’s pace, taking the long route. The two of us and two other people ended up walking faster until we ended up split off from the group, and when we got back to the parking lot we just left. From what others said, I expected an angry email, so I tried to head it off with an email of my own saying that the hike had lasted longer than we expected and we weren’t willing to stay, and that hiking really isn’t my thing so I’ll just take myself off the group list. And I still got a perturbed email back saying that this (meaning splitting up the group and going it alone) is not how the group runs. Well, fine. That’s why I left the group. But it’d be nice to let people know ahead of time that they’ll be held captive until you decide that the hike is over. It’s a frikin public park, and I think I can come and go as I please. Thanks anyway, but I won’t be joining that group again. Ugh. I’m still mad.
And then we had a not-quite intervention with the friend who’s getting married very suddenly and quickly. She has definitely thought a lot through and has talked to a lawyer and is being more careful and rational than I thought. But… it’s still scary what she’s doing.
I’m getting into the Christmas spirit early this year. I’m making a very loud potholder for one of my sisters and I just got Computer Boy’s present because the shirt I wanted to get him is about to be discontinued. What’s this? Advance preparation? Who am I? Who kidnapped the real me?
I need to get ready to go to my dentist appointment soon.
Good morning all. Yes, it is still morning here. Not yet 9:30, in fact.
My new thing is more of an old thing. I started shallow water aerobics a few weeks ago, now I’ve advanced to deep water aerobics. I was going twice a week, now it’s 4 or 5 times a week.
Hubby has been in the woods all weekend. One of his fire buds has a ski cabin up in the mountains. They went up to celebrate one of their own getting married.
They ate bad food (well, good food that is bad for them) drank, played cards and dice (they commandeered a craps table from somewhere).
They are out of cell range, so he walked down to the highway to call me Saturday and yesterday. He should be home around noon, I expect.
I burned my boob last week. I’ll see the doctor on Wednesday.
Good afternoon!
Oh Og, I’ve burned my boob a couple times, and it hurts like a Mofo. Soapy, I’m so sorry your kitty is still missing. That sucks. Taters My sister started college this weekend too… I figured my folks were kinda blue last night, all their little birdies flying the nest an’ all … they were still stuck in traffic at 10 PM from having dropped her off! Mooooom Of course you’re trying somthing new… never been retired before have ya? Lancia That sucks about your client
Well, I probably ought to eat some lunch, the tackleage of the house chores maybe… we shall see. It’s a little cool to swim (mid seventies here!! ::eek:)
