Dallas huts

Everyone’s heard of Nissen huts and Quonset huts, but I hadn’t heard about Dallas huts until I came across the term in a book I’m reading.

Why didn’t the term ‘Dallas hut’ enter the popular consciousness as the other two did?

I’ve never heard of one.

Found a couple of images, and it seems like they are not that distinctive looking as compared to a small wood or cinderblock slab house you might find on an army base or in a poor part of town.

As opposed to a quonset hut, which has a very distinctive cylindrical shape.

On a semi-related note, there are some interesting repurposed structures on Topsail Island in NC:

The square block observation towers from WWII have been converted into a variety of houses, motels, and other businesses.

True. I suppose that they looked like any other small frame building. Maybe people just called them ‘shacks’ and differentiate between them and ‘shack’ shacks.
