Damn forum rules....whyyyyy???? :(

Why can’t we post before 60 seconds, after our last post?

Why can’t we do a search before 30 seconds after our last seach?

And, for the love of mother earth, why can’t we EDIT our posts???

The first two are to reduce the load on the board. The last one is so that people can’t get into a “but you posted X” “oh no I didn’t” “you edited that out!” “I just fixed a typo, you’re a liar” type of wars. Preview is your friend (and yet I still post many a typo myself).

How come I’m probably going to get some smartass or dumbass replies?

I can understand the first two. But, the last…

And why do do those meanies make us ask questions about this message board in the forum “About This Message Board?”

I guess these have all been answered in really really many words on ATMB but heres my take which I guess isn’t too far off.

To prevent spamming, To prevent searchspam which does eat a lot of board resources, and for the love of mother earth, to prevent trolls from posting something like "g@y f@gg0ts need to be fucked with razor wire’ and the after drawing responses changing it to ‘homosexual people should get fluffy bunnees’.

Thank you drive through

P.S. I never realised complain 1 and 2 before…

My name is Torgo, I drive a Yugo.

To answer the last: edits would preclude serious debate, as some jackass would inevitably go back and change what had been written after receiving criticism. This should be obvious.

And just for the record, if you are running into the sub one minute posting rule, I have serious doubts about the import of what you trying to say.

:frowning:

Try reading all the stickies at the top of each forum, as well as the FAQs (though I should point out that the FAQ about editing is incorrect).

“Preview is your friend” means that you can hit the “Preview Reply” button to re-read your post before posting it properly with the “Submit Reply” button.

In addition to the perfectly logical answers already provided (why on earth would you edven care about the 60-second delay? How many meaningful posts can you type that quickly?) I would also point this out:

This is the best discussion board on the Internet. Anywhere. Maybe the best EVER. The quality of posts and discussions on SDMB is second to none; I have never seen a board on the web that even approaches the quality of this one, and Usenet is a joke compared to this. So whatever you might think about the way the board is run, it works.

You can code the edit feature so that you can only edit your post for a certain time after it was made - say like 5 minutes or so.

Why bother? Preview works just fine.

Shit in. Shit out.

I’ve occasionally run into the limit. I might have several threads open, type a long response to one thread, and then type a short response in another thread, and hit the limit.

Or I might read a post I just wrote, realize that I made a typo that crucially changed my meaning, and post a “D’oh! I meant XXX, not XYX!” correction, and hit the limit.

So I wait until one minute has passed, and hit Submit again.

Not too terribly difficult.

I don’t like the inability to edit posts, either, but I understand the reason for it. If they put the policy to a vote, I’d happily vote for editing. But this ain’t a democracy, and I’m fine by that.

Ah yes, SISO.

This Newbie Loon has been racing around the Board like lightning, posting pointlessly. We got an ADD 10 year old here, people.

Michael Ellis, the above is a frivolous ause of the perfectly respectable poster, Torgo.

No meds, sir. It’s winter break and school’s (college) out until next week.

Ah, there’s the problem! Might I suggest some?
