All this fucking talk of America United it’s just a bunch of bullshit isn’t it? Just read some of the posts on this very board. The hatred and animosity is so thick you can cut it with a knife. I’m not going to give examples, it hurts to read them.
Hillary gets booed because she’s attempting to honor those who died. Who gives a fuck about her personal life??
Rush gets blasted because he supports it. Who gives a good goddamn??
I like to think that on this board we have some of the most thoughtful, most caring people that bother to vist the cyberworld we inhabit.
I do realize it takes all kinds to make a world. But if this tragedy can’t bring us together, make us forget our hatreds, our vendettas, our animosities, what can?
Actually, if I had found that no difference of opinion was possible anymore and people were prevented from talking (or posting) I would have thought then that freedom (and we) had no hope.
The only (almost hopeless) scary thing is that yet again the conservative media is going for surefire ratings bait like the HRC booing (a useless bit of news when not all the people present did so, and considering our current problems, a reprehensible choice of news by the editors). I call that the Gary Condit-sharks infotainment syndrome, All that, influences the rest of the mainstream, the so-called liberal media. Of course I feel that if the mainstream media is not critical of the powers that be, then they are not doing their job. But HRC is not the biggest fish right now. The right wing media has the right to talk about HRC, but I am criticizing more the fact that the American public needs information about more pressing matters, not infotainment.
[sub]-- The preceding enduring freedom[sup]TM[/sup] message was made possible by the bill of rights, Cecil[sup]TM[/sup], the evil government internet research[sup]TM[/sup] and all the dopers opinions (approved or ignored) by all.[/sub]
Oh, good golly, you’re right! We should really have one of those Taliban type governments where we all think, believe and do the same. And if one person dares to disagree … well, what’s a finger? Or your hand? Or your head?
I don’t see why the rise of patriotism would do anything else? Patrotism allows people to pat themselves on the back for being united and then attack anyone they don’t think is being united enough. Tradegies only bring people together as long as there is a clear and present danger. CNN hyping up Anthrax doesen’t cut it.
I’m with you, Reader. It’s one thing to disagree with Hillary Clinton’s policies and philosophy, but it’s another thing to HateHerStinkin’Guts[sup]TM[/sup]. Same thing for Rush Limbaugh, GW Bush or anyone else. Granted there are times when a good juicy hatred is appropriate, but when someone like themoon starts ranting about his hatred for GW Bush because Bush somehow didn’t self-actualize himself properly, then I start getting pissed myself. I just don’t see how this ocean of vitriol that some people spew benefits anyone.
And, please before anyone flames any of us for hating those who hate, please review the thread Intolerance of Intolerance
