Damn that's an ugly car.

In an effort to not hijack DrLoveGun’s What do you think about the Honda Element? thread, I thought it’s time for another episode of **Dam that’s an ugly car

Topping my list is the Honda Element. It’s boxy, but it’s good.

I had not heard of it before but Giraffe pointed up the equally as fugly Toyota Scion. Man, U.G.L.Y!

There is a new truck out by Chevy that looks like an old lady’s slipper. The SSR. WOW. That is an ugly car.

What else should go on this list?

Damn that’s some messed up tags. :frowning:

Ouch. You forgot the PT Cruiser and the Subaru Baja. Really Really ugly.

The PT is up there on my list.

I think I’d rather see the return of the AMC Gremlin then another model year of PT’s.

The king of ugly cars is the Pontiac Aztek. The newer ones have been toned down a bit and don’t look quite as much like the elephant man of cars.

I think the street humvee is possibly the ugliest car, wide like an ankylosaur.
Second is the Chrysler PT Cruiser, I just hate it for some reason. Possibly because it looks too American, I don’t know.

Well, then the emperor of ugly cars must be the Fiat Multipla from a few years ago. The brand new Multipla looks much more normal.

Almost every new Cadillac, especially the CTS, is butt-ugly. The Jaguar X-Type looks like a stupid Ford Contour, which was ugly. The Element, Aztek, and S-Type are all hideous. The H2, Quest (although I kind of dig the skylights), Avalanche and all Scions are affronts to my visual cortex.

Oh, gods, you win. It looks like there’s a smaller car trying to bust out through the roof of a larger one. Freeaaky!!

I’m no fan of the Element or the Scion XB, but I think the PT Cruiser and Chevy SSR are two of the coolest-looking cars on the road (along with the new Ford Thunderbird).

I’d never dream of owning an Aztek, but I think I like them because they remind of of G.I. Joe (the green ones) or COBRA vehicles (the burgundy ones).

What are they thinking? The new one has no character at all.

My nomination for the ugliest car is the Hummer H2. It looks like it’s made to look like something it isn’t.

I’ve got to agree with this.

What really amazed me was a Cadillac commercial that was playing on TV last year. They intercut shots of the new CTS Convertible with shots of a beautiful late '50s (i think) Caddy convertible.

The idea, of course, was to play up Cadillac’s history, and also to show how far forward the car has come. For me, all it showed was that Cadillac used to make great-looking cars, and now they make boxy pieces of shite.

The Scion looks like a Mail Truck.

:smack:

I had planned to come in here and drop my vote for the Aztec as the most offensively ugly car ever.

That Fiat monstrocity wins, and I didn’t think it could get any worse. (even the newer one is pretty bad.)

Large boxes on wheels are ugly, but not prize winning ugly. What impresses me is when a vehicle manages to surpass the box level of ugly. It means the designers were creatively ugly. The H2 (or a dryer carton) is my bar - if its uglier than that it gets an honorable mention.

I came to this thread to mention the scion, the only car I really have any sort of opion on whatsoever. Ugliest car ever, and yes, I do feel the need to voice that opinion every time I see one.

It’s not so much ugly as hilariously and wretchedly excessive, but… the Cadillac Escalade EXT is a “luxury sport utility truck” with – get this – a 5 foot bed. Yes, it’s wider than it is long. I know it’s “reconfigurable” (by folding down the rear window and back seats, you get an extra 3 feet inside the cabin), but in its standard configuration, it looks simply ridiculous – like a Chevy Avalanche with lipstick.

Just to make things clear, the Scion everyone thinks is ugly is the Scion xB, not just “Scion”. That’d be like saying “The Ford is ugly” or “The Chevy is ugly” when you’re only talking about one particular model of Ford/Chevy.

I’m not too wild about the Xa either, and don’t look now, but the Xb is about to start burning your already insulted eyes - “Solar Yellow” is the new color for those fridge boxes on wheels.

The Honda Element is ug-ly, no doubt about it. I can only assume that the designer forgot his compass that day, and so couldn’t design a vehicle that had any curves in it. (BTW, what Element are they referring to? Rubidium? Molybdenum? Xenon?)

The Scion xB, however, actually manages to be uglier. Before I saw an xB, I would not have thought it possible to be less attractive than an Element. But when I saw the xB at the Detroit Auto Show, my jaw literally dropped open.

"My God. They took an Element and made it smaller and boxier  "

Is Scion a Toyota badge?

In any case, the Scion xB is way uglier than the Honda Element, which is uglier than the Aztek. Hey, at least the Aztek has ground clearance.
