Damn venue changes. Also, yay Gogol Bordello!

I’m very excited that Gogol Bordello is coming to my neck of the woods in July. A friend and I are going, and I anxiously await the spectacle.

So the show was slated for a venue near my house. Walking distance, excellent, that means I can get drunk if I want to. Not to mention I generally like the venue, it’s semi-outdoors so it doesn’t get clogged with smoke, which is a plus.

But I got a message on Myspace from the indie record store that the venue for this show has changed, to some venue I’ve never heard of, let alone been to, that’s a 30 minute drive away.

It’s not surprising, however. The owner of the original venue has been behaving very strangely the past month, selling off many of his bars, even if they were successful. Then the story broke that he’s been arrested for not paying over $200,000 in sales tax. Reading that article makes me worried. I don’t want this venue to close, as I’ve already written off another local venue for having hired Nazi bouncers (as in, actual racists, not just overzealous thugs) so my options for live music are limited.

Sounds like they’re staying open for a little while at least. Should be fun to watch Gogol Bordello live.

Damn Gogol Bordello for not playing Los Angeles in such a long time. If you haven’t seen them play before, you are in for a treat, they are a fantastic live band. Easily the best concert I have ever been to was their one of their shows back when Gypsy Punk Underdog World Strike was just about to be released, just after they moved to Side One. (I was still in college so it was…2004, 2005 something like that). I have never seen anyone work a room the way they do, and their fiddle player is a madman. I have seen them a couple of times before and since, and they are always awesome, but they only seem to play the Southern California area as part of the festivle circuit these days.

Heh…forgive my non-pop-music-ignorant self for thinking this, but I totally misread that as Google Bordello and thought, “Wow…maybe they’re taking this Google apps idea a little too far…”

Well, jayjay, I don’t think they’re very popular in the mainstream sense. You can see check out their myspace page to listen to their songs and watch some videos.

Nobody can rock a handlebar mustache like that.

They are so worth seeing live. The 30-minute drive will feel like nothing.

Has Greg Norton been forgotten already?

CRAP.

I see on their Myspace page they just played the other night in Royal Oak. My home town.
AIGH!

Now I am depressed.
