Damn you Apple and your vicious, brilliant, decisions

You make the first seriously successful tablet.

It is truly awesome.

But you only make it REALLY awesome when one enters their email/calendar/Facebook/personal settings.

Then you make it not support multiple users.

Meaning the whole family has access to one person’s email/calendar/Facebook.

Thus ensuring further sales of more iPads.

BRILLIANT!

Bastards!
This message brought to you by Unintentionally Blank, who discovered his wife put a passcode on her Xmas gift to keep his paws off it.

No, they will fix that in version 2 or 3.

After we buy one for each family member! Then we’ll have to buy another! BRILLIANT!

If only we could imbed images

Lie down with dogs; get up with fleas.

So, the point being that Apple found a way to exploit people with more money than sense?

Haven’t Apple been doing that for most of their existence?

Not quite so obviously…

Why not just root the thing?

You won’t have long to wait for #2 if current theory is anything to go by. I was annoyed to find out that the whole MobileMe/FindMyiPhone thing doesn’t work on my 3GS, you need an iphone4. I guess I have been cast aside as far as they are concerned, ‘buy the latest product and we love you, but only until something new comes out’.

EDIT: On a related note the whole applauding people as they leave the Apple Store with their purchases makes me sick to my stomach. I would never buy anything from there on principle, I want no part of such asshattery.

Will rooting it give us profiles? I’ve jailbroken my phone, but haven’t bothered with the iPad yet (plus, it’s the Wife’s, so it’s not really mine to muck about with.)

I can easily see the draw for apple not implementing the feature…hey, more sales…but in the case of my four member family, that makes it a $2000 iPad tax…I’m not quite willing to pay that.

Sure, sure, Mom and Dad have their iPhones, and those aren’t really shared, and it’s not an issue there, but the iPad’s kind of a different beast.

Don’t know if you have an iPad or not, but as long as you have one latest-generation device, you can enable FineMyiPhone for all of the supported devices.

In other words, I used my wife’s iPad to set up my free MobileMe account the first time and then activated it for my 3GS.

you don’t have to do any such thing,

Didn’t know you could do that, doesn’t help me though as I don’t have an iPad. I thought about getting one but given that it might only be a few months until #2 comes along I figured I would wait.

It’s a feature.

Well I was under the impression there was a multiuser login app, but it appears to be vaporware.

Sorry.

So you can’t log out and re-log in as another user?

Not as far as I know…it’s all ‘one’ user, and you COULD add multiple email accounts, but I can think of several reasons (none involving infidelity) where you might not want the whole family seeing your email. (SDMB forum notifications, for example…y’all are PERVERTS!)

Damn you Apple your rotten to the core.

I’m sorry what now?

Seriously. We don’t have Apple stores here. What is this?

Ew. I thought calling it a “Genius Bar” was bad enough.
