Man, I love that show! The aforementioned episodes always make me cry, and occasional lines will stick in my head and make me giggle at inappropriate times throughout the day. Lately, I can’t stop laughing about the exchange between Bender and the professor at the beginning of Anthology of Interest 2:
Bender: I wanna know what would happen if I were human. I mean, being a robot’s great but we don’t have emotions, and sometimes that makes me very sad.
Farnsworth: Oh lordy loo! There he goes again. Well, let’s give baby what he wants.
It’s the delivery when Bender’s saying “and sometimes that makes me very sad”. Cracks me the fuck up. Good antidote for one of them cryin’ episodes.
I am a mighty manly type man, you think I am physically capable of crying? Nay, nay! My blood is made of iron, my flesh is carved from plutonium, my eyeballs shoot lasers. And that scene makes me misty eyed.
If you don’t watch Jurassic Bark you don’t get to see
Leela and Amy
sparring in skimpy wrestling outfits,
their most skimpy outfits of the entire series!!!
AND THEY’RE WRESTLING!!!
If you watch the commentary on Jurrassic Bark, instead of the Connie Wilson song at the end, one of them wanted the Gayenne Ballet Suite. Its the classical piece over the closing credits of Aliens and also in 2001:A Space Odyssey, where the floors rotating, for want of a better description.
I never really loved this episode because it seemed to me a retread of “Luck of the Fryish.” But in hindsight that may be a defense mechanism I use to avoid rewatching it and bawling like a baby.
Oh no, he told me what it’s about, and he’s quite right. I recently left my dog with my mother in order to move to London, and even dog food adverts make me cry at the moment. Watch that episode and I’d probably cry so much I’d dissolve.
I get teary eyed just thinking about this episode.
I got my dog, Goliath (the worlds sweetest dog), about 2 - 3 months before this episode aired. I would leave him at my parents house and we would go out for dinner. My parents have 3 dogs and they have 2 doggie doors in their house. Goliath figured out how to get out of the house, but for some reason, he didn’t go back in. We would come home from dinner and Goliath would be sitting at the front door (the whole property was fenced and gated) staring at the gate waiting for me to come home. I always thought that was so sweet and loving of him. Needless to say when I first saw Jurassic Bark and Seymour was displaying the same behaviour that Goliath had - I just lost it at the end of the episode.
If I would have gotten him after seeing the episode, Goliath would have had his name changed to Seymour.
Ah jeez, I remember seeing that episode. Just reading that big spoiler tag synopsis made me get all wishy washy in my eyes again.
I also remember the one where a large space insect stabbed through Fry and punctured Leela, and most of the episode turned out to be all in Leelas unconcious mind.
I’d like to read the synopsis of that episode too!
If by “where the floor’s rotating,” you mean the scene where the stewardess is walking along the rotating floor of the spaceship, you are mistaken. The music in that scene is Johann Strauss Jr.'s On The Beautiful Blue Danube (The Blue Danube Waltz).
“we are all from different cultures here. Some of you are black, some of you are white… You’re brown… and you’re silver!! But i don’t care if your skin in red, tan, or Chinese.”
“My plan is so simple, an idiot could have devised it!”
Bender: something like, “Please pick me for a suicide mission” (he had is patriot circuits activated)
Zap: “Your bravery is impressive soldier, but with me, every mission is a suicide mission!”
