Damon to the Yankees? Man I hate the Yankees...

I hate them…HATE them!

Another in a long line of sad days for the Red Sox nation. I just dont know what else to say… :frowning:

As someone on the outside, while I hate the Yankees more than I dislike the Red Sox, both teams are annoying as hell. Trading players back and forth is like cousins sharing a wife.

But if he was a favorite of yours, I’m sorry to hear he’s gone. I hate when a favorite leaves my team.

As a Yankee fan, all I can say is: Hee hee!

Yes, this gets way too much coverage - media pot-stirring - but man is the Yankees line-up is seemingly bullet-proof…

And man, is my grammaticalness seemingly sloppified… :smack:

And I thought laughter had gone from my world today…but this cracked me up! Well said WordMan!

Is Affleck going with him?

Part of the deal was the Red Sox are still stuck with Affleck. That got Damon and extra million a year.

The signing is good for the lineup, but not so good for the defense. Damon is 32 and will be 36 and the end of contract. He is already weak armed.
Sheffield is a defensive liability in RF except for his arm. Godzilla has actually regressed as a fielder.

The Lineup should be scary, but scary lineups don’t win in all. Pitching and Defense usually wins out.

Yankees outfield is aging, but I’m still more worried about their pitching. The lineup was solid enough before that it could absorb Bubba Crosby in CF (not that you want a weak hitting outfielder).

I’m wondering, did Damon’s agent mention the grooming and dress codes of the Yankees to him? He’s going to need a haircut, a shave and a new wardrobe (although I’m pretty sure that he can afford all 3 fairly easily).

He has already joked about the grooming standards.

That was my first thought as well. It’ll be interesting to see Johnny not working the cro-mag look. Although anyone who’s even remotely familiar with him knows that he doesn’t *really * believe they’ll make him spiff up. He’s convinced he’s sufficiently special as to merit any and all exemptions.

You know, I like the Red Sox *and * the Yankees (what?), but I really, really hate Johnny Damon.

Nothing to worry about. The damn Yankees are going to crash and burn at a high rate of speed this season. Too bad Damon has to go down with them, but the lack of pitching and an incompetent infield will be the bane of their miserable existance. It couldn’t happen to a better (meaning “more loathed”) team.

Pitching is an issue, the outfield is aging, but incompetent infield? Puh-leeze. I’d like to see a stronger right side, but they are hardly incompetent (well, maybe Giambi, but that’s it).

That guy could have been a hero in Boston forever. Now they will be loathe to even speak of him, except to curse his name. I guess he’s the type who wants money, not glory.

I hear what you’re saying, but “no glory”? He just signed with the New York fucking Yankees, the most successful franchise in professional sports. They average one World Series crown every 4 years or so (26 total) since they started winning 'em in 1921. I believe there’s a little glory left to be found in The Bronx.

That said, (and I’ve voiced this opinion in the Hot Stove thread) I hope he fails his physical so he doesn’t leave Boston.

Infield is the best offensive infield in baseball with
A-Rod, Jeter, Cano & Giambi
Defense A-Rod is near GG and Jeter has 2 straight and makes the impossible plays that no one else does. Cano is solid and improving and Giambi stinks. This hardly qualifies as an incompetent infield. The OF Defense is weak however.

What were you basing that statement on Silenus?

Jim

Just wait for it. I have it on good authority (my local gypsy fortuneteller) that the Yankees are going to rack up a ton of infield errors this season. I am also predicting s couple of minor but nagging injuries to slow down the offensive production. Add in the weak pitching, and you are looking at a melt-down of epic proportions. Fingers crossed, all!

We won’t even start to dissect what is happening to my beloved Dodgers…

His hiring of Scott Boras as his agent should have been the tipoff.

OF FUCKING COURSE, it’s about the money; who here is truly shocked or even truly feels betrayed? Following a sports team is fun, sure, but don’t give your love to somebody who doesn’t love you back, okay?

The Yankees, ftr, haven’t won a World Series in this millenium. They have not improved their pitching or even their defense, although they’ve arguably temporarily weakened their primary rival. Guys, are you still going to gloat over this signing every time you see Cano go onto the grass to cut off Damon’s throws from that deep, deep CF in NY?

Boston’s pitching is much better than last year, maybe enough to compete with Chicago but we’ll see. The Yankees? A footnote come late October.

Nah. That will just be business as usual. At least Damon’s arm, and even William’s arm, are better than Mickey River’s arm ever was.

Damon, at least, can cover more CF than Williams (at this stage of his career, at least).

Who is gloating as a Yankee Fan. Most Yankee fans in this thread know that our Yanks have holes. We know Damon is not the ideal CF, especially on Defense.
The Yanks are still a team to beat though and December predictions have a tendency to bite people in the arse.

Well, I could gloat, if you really want me to. I’ve had lots of practice, although I’ve grown rusty since October 2004. However, I hope to get some practice this Tuesday. I’m working in Redskins country, and Tuesday I fully expect to mercilessly abuse my cohorts in crime.
