Wasn’t Dayan the guy who got pulled over for speeding and told the cop “I’ve only got one eye- what do you want me to do- watch the speedometer or the road?” (or some smart-assed comment along those lines)

Great job by both parties. Crenshaw is actually a pretty good actor! Glad to see someone going with the flow instead of creating an international incident over something like this.
Need more of this (along with more cowbell, of course!).
If we want to establish norms against certain behavior then it is useful to welcome hypocrites. If you disqualify Trump supporters from complaining when disabled veterans are mocked then that lack of voice weakens the norm against mocking the disabled.
I dunno - I thought “Molesting Wiggle” was funny.
Seems to have garnered something stronger than a “remark”.
Anyway: Davidson’s joke was mildly tasteless, those Republicans that are trying to spin this into a major event are just desperate to claw back whatever high ground they can gain from their position at the bottom of the undrained swamp, and Crenshaw seems to have taken it with good grace (certainly better than Fortenberry’s office took that bit of insult humor) and played it well. All in all, a minor blip in the context of the current political climate.
It’s interesting that we hold a comedian on a late-night comedy show to a higher standard than we do the president of the United States.
You do know that he lost his eye in an IED blast, right? It is entirely possible that he had severe damage around the eye that might have been scarring or otherwise disfiguring, and the eye patch covers it.
In fact, Crenshaw took damage to both eyes, and wasn’t expected to see again. And if you look at his eyebrow above his good eye, you can see scarring there. The medical report said his other eye was ‘completely destroyed’. My guess is that the area around the eye probably didn’t come out too well. Maybe he chose the eye patch over cosmetic surgery around what was a missing eye.
In pictures where he isn’t wearing makeup (like this one), he may have scarring above and below the eye patch. What’s under it may not be pretty, which is another good reason not to mock people wearing eye patches.
