Dick Cheney a Sartorial Embarrassment

Cheney’s Auschwitz outfit raises eyebrows

What the hell? Did Air Force Two lose his luggage?

looks like he’s dressed for a football game.

that guy is crazy. he just doesn’t give a fuck.

LMAO… sorry. That photo is hilarious.

I can just hear him mumbling “Fuck this.” under his breath. He looks so miserable and out of place.

Best line from the CNN story:

Cheney was wearing a heavy winter parka with fur lining and a fur lined hood.

Why would he forgo the overcoat, which wouldn’t add as much protection in the cold? Well, because he’s not half as healthy as most of the world leaders he was pictured with. The guy has a serious heart condition and almost definitely is on blood thinners, which means he can feel cold in a Texas summer at noon.

It’s a serious health risk for him to be out in that cold in just an overcoat like the rest of them were wearing. For most of us here on this forum we could probably stand out in that could in sweat pants and a t-shirt for a long time if we really wanted to abuse ourselves, Cheney however could die from something much less extreme than that.

This is a lame, weak ass rant, period.

The guy showed up. And there is also nothing as stupid as crying because people supposedly aren’t showing “enough respect” for the holocaust. What you wear doesn’t say all that much about what’s in your heart imo.

Bullshit. He could have worn longjohns and a wool dress coat and a bigass fur hat like some of those other dudes. He’d have been plenty warm.

Oh come on, he could have worn a little something nicer.
He’s the freaking VP of the USA.
They make stylish warm wear.
They make thermal clothing.

I apologize for the cursing. It was out of line, and I can’t edit it now. :smack:

Guys, it’s a green jacket, big deal. It’s not like he pissed all over the death camp or actually killed any Jews himself. Who’s to say big gaudy fur hats and overcoats are more respectful than the parka he’s wearing?

And most overcoats of the make the world leaders wear can’t be made with newer age linings or materials that will keep you warmer. Long johns may not have cut it. He probably also needs something to keep the wind off of him, something smaller jackets can’t do.

In all honesty he shouldn’t be there period, or should probably have a scarf covering 2/3 of his face, but he did go and he did expose himself to pretty harsh weather.

Anyways you guys are ragging on a guy with a serious medical condition because of something he wore to almost certainly address some of the problems that condition occurs.

Every single day before a Veep or the Pres. appears in public they have aides that specifically look at their wardrobes to make sure there isn’t a “problem.” Cheney wouldn’t have been let out like that unless there was a very good reason for it. It’s not like politicians of his level typically pick their own outfits every day.

How would you feel if the Prime Minister of Japan showed up at a Pearl Harbor memorial in a Hawaiian shirt and Bermuda shorts?

This is a very telling statement.

I wouldn’t like it. But that’s a completely different situation.

Hawaiian shirts and berumda shorts do not = green parka and wool cap.

If the Japanese PM had a medical condition that caused him to be particularly susceptible to the heat I’d have no problem if he wore something lighter, but respectful, I wouldn’t be offended if he was unable to wear a suit for example. But there’s many light/cool outfits one can wear that aren’t so audacious as hawaiian shirts.

No, it’s really not. It’s none of your business how someone shows respect, and it’s not your job to place “levels of respect” that are instantly translateable to what clothes you wear.

Please provide a cite for your assertion that Mr. Cheney’s unfortunate choice of clothing was a medical necessity.

Or the people in his wardrobe department have a sadistic sense of humour.

If someone is at an event and is representing me than I think it *is * my job. So tell me, why wouldn’t you like it if the Japanese PM showed up to a Pearl Harbor memorial dressed like a tourist, while everyone else was wearing suits?

You know what, of all the things that anger me about Cheney and as much as I actively dislike him, I really can’t get into a huff about his fashion sense.

No huff here. Just wondering what happened. Somebody dropped the ball.

OK, I will say this: I meant to click on IMHO for this thread. I just now realized that it ended up in Cafe Society.

Mods, could you move it for me?

Thanks.

I’m thinking if it gets moved at all, it’s more likely to be going to the Pit.

It is Dick Cheney, after all.
