Florence Henderson spend a good chunk of time on Broadway that included starring in musicals. I have a feeling she’s got some dancing shoes tucked away somewhere.
Anyone remember Jennifer Grey in the The Cotton Club? Did she dance in that movie?
I haven’t seen it in 20 years. I may rent it before dwts starts.
I second the Florence Henderson admiration. She starred in several big theater productions before her tv career. Musicals were her specialty. It’s a shame her career is now defined by a tv show. She’s been typecast ever since.
Age is obviously a major issue for anyone appearing on dwts. I can’t see Florence lasting beyond the fourth or fifth week. Even the young people start looking exhausted when they have two required dances a week.
Didn’t Nicole Scherzinger, someone who is famous for her dancing as much as her singing, win the last season? I think the whole “amateurs being taught by the professionals” idea is over by this point.
I always assumed that being the daughter of Joel Grey would involve dance lessons from the womb onward; I think her mother was a Broadway dancer as well.
Hasselhoff may not be TV A-List like he was when Baywatch was at its peak anymore but he’s filthy rich (Baywatch earned him hundreds of millions) as I would think Michael Bolton is as well. I wonder if they’re doing the show for the exposure or just personal enjoyment.
I’ve always been able to live with people who have some dance training, even though, yeah, ringers. What bothers me about Jennifer Grey specifically is that her training is in ballroom dancing, specifically.
I’m glad Anna got a good partner this time. She’s had some tough pairings in the past. Kurt Warner should still be in shape. He just retired from football. He should bring a good work ethic to the competition. It’ll be a long time before Anna gets someone with Evan Lysacek’s skills.
Last night I ended up watching “Mira Quien Baila” on Univision. “People You’ve Heard Of” is a lot more important to the enjoyment of the show than you would think.
(I’m also going to give a try to “Battle of the Blades,” which seems to be the Canadian reality show version of “The Cutting Edge.” This idea -)
Pre-Season predictions? Derek & Jennifer Grey will go far. Corky will not be near as funny as he thinks he is. Kym might do well with the Hoff. Rick Fox was married to Vanessa Williams for a while, he might have picked up something.
The only time we’ve seen Corky, he was dealing with Cloris – I’m not sure how much of that needs to be blamed on Corky and how much of it was his effort do deal with her shtick and persona.
