Dancing with the Stars -- DWTS -- Spring 2013

Dick wasn’t his name. i actually enjoyed his section. DL didn’t even try. Disappointed.

I gave Andy Dick six of my votes, and Victor the other six – both showed excellent attitudes and deserve to hang around for a few weeks.

I finally decided to split votes for Ingo and Dorothy Hamill. I enjoyed their dances the most and was worried the fan bases might be small.

Nearly all the dances were pretty good. DL was by far the worst and Victor probably won’t last long either. Otherwise, I think they’ve got a strong cast.

I’m glad there’s no elimination until after the 2nd dance. I always think that’s more fair. Give everyone two dances before deciding who leaves first.

Victor is adorable.
If “Contemporary” means “Coldplay,” I am not a fan. But Ingo’s dance was nice.
Gleb of “Vanderpump and Gleb” is hot. Vanderpump just stumbled around out there. And I never want to see that dog on stage again.
DL - that was just bad.
It wasn’t perfect, but it made me happy to watch Dorothy Hamill dance.
I still think that Tony’s dances are too gimmicky. But Wynonna was enjoying it and it was lovely to see her family cheering for her.

Guessing that Hughley goes home tomorrow.

^^^ I believe that no one goes home until next Tuesday because each pair is supposed to dance again next Monday.
God bless you and each one always!!!

Jacoby Jones (the NFL player) seemed to have an attitude, and Len did not like it one bit. Or perhaps I’m reading too much into body language & expressions. But football players tend to be surprisingly good at this.

Disappointed to see, that of all possible dance forms, they chose to expand to include Contemporary. Always my least favorite part of SYTYCD – it just seems like random whirling and falling down.

Speaking of SYTYCD…was the new blonde pro on SYTYCD last season?

And for god’s sake please leave the dog backstage.

Yes.

I respect Val’s approach to training Zendaya. He’s keeping real ballroom and latin moves. She’ll be a much more complete dancer and performer after this season.

I’m so glad Mark didn’t get Zendaya.

Vals Blog:

I think Val is a ballroom purist and I like that about him. He doesn’t have any of the other modern dance training, like Hough and Ballas, but he knows it and can match himself to that style if need be.

His contemporary choreography was probably the best of the night, regardless if his celebrity is a dance ringer or not. I love that he wants his dancer to have great preparation. Val is a super choreographer, just as good as Hough imho.

I’m still on the Dorothy and Tristan train, but I’m tempted to vote for Val’s team as well. How cute would that be to see the youngest and the oldest at the end?

There’s some seriously good talent this season. Any of these top five could easily win this season.

Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough: 26
Zendaya & Val Chmerkovskiy: 26
Aly Raisman & Mark Ballas: 24
Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff: 23
Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson: 20

That’s a pretty good group of talent and several could be considered ringers. This is going to be a fun season. Jacoby is still hampered by his recent knee surgery. He’ll be a major threat in another three weeks.

btw when did Aly develop those huge boobs? That’s unusual for gymnasts. Most gymnasts I can think of are fairly flat. Boobs just get in the way when they’re doing all those flips and hand stands.

Time to go vote. I’m giving them all to Dorothy. I don’t want to see her go out because of an injury. She’ll do a lot better next week if she gets to come back.

I hope DL Hughley goes home. He was such a jerk to Cheryl. Guaranteed he won’t dance any better next week. Neither will Victor Ortiz. I expect both of them to be gone week 1 and 2.

I feel bad for Victor’s partner Lindsay Arnold. She’s trying so hard, but getting eliminated early is expected with new pros.

I was impressed with the way Lindsey handled Victor. Although she’s pretty young, she was firm but still understanding.

There’s a real possibility that Dorothy may drop out. She alluded to it with George OTRC and TV Guide picked up the story. Part of me wants her to stay because I think she’s fabulous, and part of me hates to see her struggle with pain. Whatever she decides, its obvious she won’t be at her optimum, and that’s a little sad.
I think DL is seriously getting hosed by the producers and the judges and they want him gone. But in fairness, this guy did a lot more with the Quickstep than Wynona’s slow motion dance. He may stay, the way he and Cheryl joke on twitter I doubt that one scene we all watched meant much at all.

Zendaya is one helluva dancer. Val is throwing everything at her and she’s making it work. I am extremely impressed with her maturity and ability to sell that dance thus far, that’s not easy. I think this was probably the most advanced Jive given to a celebrity.

Jacoby pleasantly surprised me, gone is the entitlement attitude and the Warren Sapp bundle of fun emerged. Loved their routine. He excels when he doesn’t have to follow rules.

Kellie, meh, I wasn’t impressed with the routine, I thought it was missing elements, and Kellie has yet to dance more than a few steps. Given that Zendaya danced her ass off, I was expecting more than her bendy poses.

Andy and Sharna were fun. He’s still kind of awkward in his turns and his steps but I’m warming to him. I never thought I would say that.

Victor and Lindsay - forgettable

Wynonna and Tony - slow motion

Ingo and Kym - he reminds me more and more of Cameron Mathison. A good dancer but with some awkward moments.
Aly and Mark - despite the fact that she was clinging on for dear life, she hasn’t really sparkled yet. At least she’s done a helluva lot more step sequences than Kellie.

Sean and Peta - no jive to speak of. he stayed on time though.

Vanderpump and Gleb? I forgot what they did, oh yeah, the jive. She isn’t very comfortable out there and it shows.

Can the cyst put Dorothy out of dwts? I just assumed they’d drain it and she’d be ok in a few days.

Maybe I shouldn’t have wasted my votes on her. :smack:

I don’t usually link to things I’ve written IRL, but I’m going to make an exception for this piece, which I’ve been promising (threatening?) to write for the last few seasons: “Why I love 'Dancing with the Stars.'”

Well here’s the story

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Dancing-With-The-Stars-Dorothy-Hamill-Quit-1063173.aspx

Loved it! I see a lot of myself in that article!! Do you ever read Annie Barrett’s re-caps on Entertainment Weekly? She’s a witty one too.

I was pleasantly surprised by Andy Dick. He’ll probably stick around a few weeks.

Wynonna is getting on my last nerve. Both weeks, she has been shown as extremely emotional and pushing herself beyond anything any normal person could possible endure. Doing it to prove to herself that “If she can do it, she can do anything.” Then her dances have been pathetic.

I think Kirstie Alley became so popular because she REALLY threw herself out there - with about 1/10th the drama.

My son loves Disney shows so I have seen alot of Zendaya’s show. The conceit is that her and her best friend are dancers on a local show. There is at least one extended bit of dance on every episode. She is pretty much a professional dancer. Isn’t that unfair to the other celebrities?

There are always a few competitors who are either trained dancers or who have some other significant leg up (sic) – performers and athletes. shrug It doesn’t mean she’ll automatically win, since there are others with a dance or movement background – but it does mean that we’ll have dances worth watching all season.
