Dancing with the Stars -- DWTS -- Spring 2013

I thought it was the first and last dancer place that the producers paid most attention to. There’s still a lot of bad dancers to throw out before things get serious for the decent ones.

Exhaustion is becoming a factor. It’s a shame they refuse to give the celebrities a mid season break before starting the two dances a week stage. Maks said in a blog that he’s suggested it several times. Even skipping a results show one week (like in All Stars) gives them a day to rest.

The judging did seem off last night. Propping up Pickler. Slamming Victor. They were a lot nicer to Andy. The poor guy just can’t dance worth a crap. No coordination at all.

What was Victor’s problem? He couldn’t show some heat for Lindsay? Is he blind? She’s cuter than Julianne Hough. By far the prettiest dancer on the show.

Perhaps showing heat involves moving one’s hips - something that up to this point Victor appears to be totally incapable of.

No real surprise tonight. Victor was a logical elimination. I would have preferred Sean. But he won’t be around much longer either.

Andy is dancing ok. Really it’s his performance that is keeping him in. He’ll never be a dancer. I kind of hope he outlasts Sean.

I"m with you. At least Andy is fun to watch. Sean is just painful.

Catching up late again.

I can’t believe the judges gave Andy and Victor the same scores. Andy may not be very skilled technically, but at least he was moving and dancing and seemed to know his routine. Victor pretty much stood there while Lindsay danced around him and half the time it looked like he had forgotten the dance. Oh well, it worked out the right way in the end. Sounds like Sharna has something good planned for Andy’s dance next week. Have I mentioned I love Sharna?

An article on the ballroom dancer that lost her foot in the Boston bombing. Tom announced last week that the show was going to feature her in a dance next year.

Heather Mills danced on DWTS for several weeks and she was a much higher amputee. It can be done. I’m sure this lady can recover and resume her career as a dance instructor.

Zendaya looked really stressed and exhausted in the rehearsal footage. Val is pushing her too hard. It backfired tonight and their scores dropped. Derek has been tweeting all week about being on Pickler’s bus touring. Pickler still out danced Zendaya. I’m sure it’s just from stress. Val better back off or he could still cost Zendaya a win this season.

The nasty producers have come up with a gimmick to get rid of a bad dancer this week. Probably Andy and Sharna or Sean and Peta. They lost the first Dance Off round. I got a feeling this is rigged so that those lost 3 points will hurt a lot. Jacoby lost the Dance Off too but he had a high score on his other dance.

I understand that the show doesn’t want a strong fan base to send a bad dancer into the semi-finals. They’ve manipulated the elimination in prior seasons too. The Dance Off isn’t new for dwts.

I decided to give Aly my votes this week. She spent the week rehearsing with Henry and then had to dance live with an injured Ballas. Getting a 29 and winning her dance off is quite an accomplishment under the circumstances.

Ok the dance off was against Andy. But Aly still did really well and easily won the dance off.

Even without the extra three points, Andy and Sean are two of the next three out – the third being Ingo.

The real question is, once it’s down to four, who’s not going to make it to the finals?

Something else that Zendaya/Val struggle with is the need to come up non-romantic story lines for all these sizzling-hot dances due to her age. How do you sell a rumba/tango/paso double/samba without any sexual tension? It’s bloody tough.
What the hell was up with Carrie Ann Inaba last night? I swear she was drunk. After she used the word fart on the air I’ll never think of her the same way again.

That, plus Len giving higher scores than the other two – very weird.

During last night’s dance off, Aly looked off beat or at least definitely out of sync with Mark - while Andy (who is not a good dancer) looked much more together with Sharna (who is doing a great job of choreographing to someone who is not a good dancer). Or, in other words, I liked Andy’s cha cha better overall.
The jives were fun to watch. And I agree with the majority of the judges on the rumbas.

Dancing With the Stars Blog Week 7.

Len is really grasping at straws trying to underscore Zendaya. 3 points deducted for a Chin? Here’s what Louis Van Amstel said about that:

“News flash Len and Bruno, for Paso Doble your chin comes slightly down,
not up. Oh yes, in 1970 it did, but that was more a parody of Paso Doble. The scores should have been at least same as Kellie and Aly,
especially knowing her choreography was harder!”

Either Zen is running away with the fan vote so they want to keep her down on the farm, or they want to bestow a trophy on Hough. If Len doesn’t start being reasonable then we know the fix is in. He held back on other great dancers until week 8.

Ha! I just quoted from that

Yeah, but I think Val has done amazingly well. They have the Salsa, Quickstep Rumba Foxtrot left, and frankly I think they can knock these out of the park.

Salsa is just a party dance- she can do this with her great hip action, Quickstep and Foxtrot - I’d love to see these dances interpreted, there’s so much classical musicals to draw from.

Everyone is weirded out by the Rumba, but this dance can be a very lyrical interpretation and can be A-sexual. You could make a stylized Rumba, Zendaya could be an Angel - Val a tortured soul- lots of good music around for something like that. You could choreograph a Rumba to celebrate that dancer amputee, there’s lots of ways you could go.

No real surprise tonight.

Who the heck was the sadist a-hole that picked Mark and Aly for the repeat dance? Did someone not get the memo how much he was hurting Monday night?
No one expected Andy to last beyond the first elimination. He was dancing in week 7. He was reasonably entertaining and I didn’t mind him lasting this long.

Lets hope that this is a positive step in his recovery. He might even get a role on another sitcom someday. He’ll have to stay sober and prove himself first. But, dwts should have shown that he’s trying.
Eliminated tonight:

We have no Dick

Yeay, Twitch! Good filler stuff this week. Enjoyed all the extras.

Funny thing is, I get the impression that no one actually ‘likes’ Mark. They put up with him because of his amazing talent. (ymmv)
