Fun featurette on the effect of the writers’ strike on the show.
So how much do you want to bet that we’re going to see a bow tie with no shirt underneath it from Cameron next week? (If he makes it through.)
I think it’s hardly fair to slam them on their costumes when the costumes are chosen for them.
StG
I mean the judges. We can slam all we want.
StG
Oh thank god – I was afraid you’d gone off the deep end there!
Actually, I think they get a fair amount of input on the costumes. They get none on the music, though, and I see a lot of news reporting slamming the celebrities for choosing weird music.
The judges’ criticism is getting harsher, yet it isn’t reflected in their scores. They gave 8’s to Marie when I think she deserved 7’s, etc.
Marie should go home just because she’s the weakest. Even Cameron moves his hips better. Technically Helio performs much more difficult moves than Marie or Jennie, yet they end up with the same score…?
At this point, I agree that Mel and Maks are heads adn shoulders above the competition. It’s too bad that Sabrina was sent home so early.
Once again, Edyta’s costumes bug the shit out of me. She’s got a lovely body. WE GET IT.
The results show has aired.
Not since Wayne Newton went home has a result been so well deserved!
ETA: Loved Tom’s joke about the writer’s strike!
Yeah, so long as the judges wise up and start giving Marie the scores she really deserves. Maybe that way even the sympathy vote won’t be enough to carry her any further.
I have to admit, I wasn’t surprised that Marie didn’t go home, but I was a little surprised that she wasn’t even in the bottom two. Who actually was, they didn’t announce, but Marie and Helio both were announced as NOT being in the bottom two.
Agree, totally.
Does anyone remember how the final plays out?
My recollection is that it is a 2-hour show (of course!) that begins with the final 3 dancers performing and then THE JUDGES eliminate one of the dancers, leaving the final 2 to duke it out.
Then on Tuesday, it’s probably another hour, or maybe two, in which the entire season is recapped, all dancers return and. . . FINALLY. . . we learn who the viewers have voted as the winner.
Is this right or am I making it up? I just thought it would be a good way to get rid of Marie if, for example, through some strange quirk of fate the final three were Helio, Mel and Marie. Help me out here, somebody! Buehler?. . . Buehler?
Good to know there will be a good snack break opportunity on Tuesday: Michael Flatley (and his enormous ego) will be appearing.
Sadly, for the American version, you’re making it up.
The finale has been different each time, they’ve been playing around with formats, trying to find the one they like most.
Alas. . .maybe this is the way they SHOULD make it work out.
Just some trivia: Acc to People magazine, Sabrina and her choreographer (Mark?) are dating IRL. And Mario is living with his choreographer (Irina?).
Okay, this isn’t really the point of this week’s show – but what’s with Bruno’s haircut?
Huh, well, for some reason I’ve got loads to comment on this week, but I gotta confess I didn’t notice Bruno’s haircut. I’ll blame the friend who was txting me the whole freakin’ hour and a half of the show. And not about the show either. Jeez.
Anyway, although I wouldn’t have said this any of the previous three or four weeks, everyone seemed to bring their ‘A’ game tonight. Despite that, and keeping in mind, as always, that I’m fairly clueless on the technical aspects of each dance, I thought the scores for Marie/Jon’s quickstep and Helio/Julianne’s cha cha cha were wildly inflated: in the former, I had the distinct impression I was watching a bit from the Lawrence Welk Show circa 1965, while in the latter it seemed like Julianne was doing all the work, and, er, her hair looked funny.
Mel and Maks came closest to deserving their perfect scores, although for me the Viennese Waltz was more 9-ish than 10-ish. I’ll give a shout out to Mel for her costumes throughout the competition, however; in particular, her red number this week (accessorized with bullwhip, no less) was hot Hot HOT, as come to think, was the black outfit last week. Also, random question time, what’s up with the rude boy hat Maks wears during practice? Maybe they should break out some ska for the freestyle in the finals, and then he can wear it during the routine.
Oh yeah, and I love how Mel always manages to give Bergeron a smack on the bottom as they’re leaving the stage.
And so we come to Jennie. I’ve gotta say, both the Houghs strike me as pretty good cheographers, but Derek really outdid himself this time in both numbers, with by far the most inventive moves and interesting music of the night. It seemed like Jennie had the most difficult moves to make and I’d therefore tend to cut her some slack for a couple of weak bits in the tango; IMO she really nailed the second dance, however, and the 10s were well-deserved.
Too bad the most annoying Disney-shilling came during her pre-dance sidebar segment: we’re expected to believe that after wanting to drop out, she ‘found a whole new perspective’ by showing up at a staged event in Disneyland and dancing with Mickey Mouse? Give me a break.
OK, so who’s gonna go? I don’t know, but what I’d most like to see is a Helio/Mel/Jennie finale. After that, don’t much care who gets the prize, and may the best score win.
Mel & Maks got 4 of my votes. Watching Mel is captivating. Don’t know how she got the Scary Spice moniker cause I don’t find her the least bit scary. Anyone who can upstage Maks, no small feat, deserves kudos. Plus Maks really deserves credit for some really tight numbers.
It would have been very interesting to see how Maks would have handled someone like Jennie, whose ego is so fragile. Alas, we’ll never know.
Jennie & Derek got 1 vote simply because she has made great strides since the beginning. I really thought she let loose last night, which was great to see.
Helio was great, but he was so good from the beginning that I haven’t seen any growth. And it’s time for a chick to win.
Marie really put it out there, and she’s shown tremendous growth (while physically getting smaller), but her competition is better. It sucks, but there it is.
I liked Bruno’s haircut.
I’m hoping Marie will go home tonight, though I fear it will be Jennie.
Fingers crossed the Mel and Maks make it all the way – they’ve been way too much fun to watch all season. (The whole series of adlibs about the whip last night had me pretty  ) ( )
