The season premiere is not that far away – Thursday the 26th.
The bad news is that Adam Shankman is making a movie (Rock of Ages) and will not be a FT judge this summer.
The worse news is that they’re bringing back Mary Murphy. Hopefully they’ll keep her sedated.
I missed Mary last time.
I am hoping Mia stays away this season
Mary is MUCH preferable to Mia.
Mary shrieks, but her enthusiasm is enjoyable. Mia is just a total bitch and makes me want to change the channel.
amen… Mia is pretentious and bitchy, but a good choreographer; leave her there.
Mary is so over-the-top and effusive in her praise, I kind of adore her. HOT TAMALE TRAIN!
I also think Mia is a bit racist.
And yeah, Mary is annoying as hell, but it’s cute seeing how excited the contestants get when they’re told they’re on the “HOT TAMALE TRAIN!!!”
I’m stoked for this year. I hope they don’t have all the injuries again. Last year was brutal in that regard.
The thing about Mary is when it comes to ballroom, she really does know her stuff and breaks down the movements & steps to a level of specificity that Nigel or Adam didn’t. Yes, the screeching can be annoying, but she’s still leagues better than the knee-jerk, hyper-emotional, and self-important Mia.
Comparing Mary to Mia isn’t the point – Mia has never been more than a guest judge. Last year Adam was the second regular judge, and I love love love him. This year Mary will be back as the second regular judge, and her shtick annoys the hell out of me, despite her knowledgability. I’m just hoping they adjust her meds.
I like Mary, I like Mia, I just wish Mia would stop getting so over the top emotional. Maybe it’s real, maybe it’s not, but I’m sick of seeing her cry over her own work. The other thing is that it seems like over the past few years she’s been going out of her way to shock people. She chopped her hair off, got a bunch of tattoos, shaved her head, started wearing a military style jacket, got more tattoos, buzzed her hair, wore an upside down American flag on the military style jacket. Got it, you like the attention. Come to think of it, I wonder if the crying is just another facet of this.
Mary, Mia…I tend to agree with the consensus that Mary is annoying but cute, and Mia is merely annoying.
But no Adam Shankman?!!??? This is just devastating. He’s 12 kinds of awesome.
Her personality, I can’t stand Mia. She really pissed me off with the season (5?) with Brandon. He didn’t win but it was obvious from the beginning that he was a dance genius but Mia just kept putting him down unfairly week after week, until it got to the point where even she couldn’t deny his skill.
Did she apologize for her undue harsh treatment? No, she did that whole, “I pushed you cuz I believed in you” bullshit.
With her work I either really love it or I it bores me and I never want to see it again.
Reminder that the season premiere is tonight – I’m gonna stop at the drugstore on my way home for earplugs.
Apparently Mary was out last season because she had a cancerous tumor removed from her throat.
That is sad news and I am glad she is better.
I do hope, however, that she will take this as a sign that screaming is not a good thing.
Did anyone else watch? I liked that they cut back on the freakshow clips, and mostly showed dancing that was worth watching.
I was a little nervous about that “I don’t know what style I dance, I dance Ashley style” – that’s usually the prelude to self-deluded weirdness – but damn, she can dance.

I saw most of it, except for the 10 minutes when my Mom called me. I missed Ashley’s backstory. Didn’t miss her audition though. I was expecting weirdness too, but she was good.
Last night, if you were a short-haired female, you were awesome. Every single one I liked was a a girl with short hair.
I was amused that they showed all the beauty shots of San Francisco, and Cat gushed over how beautiful SF is - and then the actual tryouts were at the Paramount Theater in Oakland.
I don’t remember the name but the girl that danced to Gravity. That was spectacular. The strength required for some of those tricks must have been amazing.
Ashley was good. And pretty.
WTF was up with that guy crying everywhere and on the floor? I’m just as confused as the judges.
I loved the guy’s face when the grandma was actually critiquing him. He wasn’t expecting that.
Mary is annoying but she doesn’t piss me off as Lil CJ (I think that’s his name). Dude, just because you have a thesaurus doesn’t mean you need to use it all the time.
That Amber ( blonde with green outfit) was OTT! But personality to beat the band! Hope she gets through to the show.
