So You Think You Can Dance -- SYTYCD -- Summer 2011

She was one of the first ones. Said people asked if she was on something all the time. She was in ATL. (I think)

I thought that was the Paramount in Oakland…but then I thought “maybe there’s a Paramount Theater in San Francisco too?”

Remember the two black guys who did their dance together where they both got tickets to Vegas, it’s looking like they stole their choreography according to this youtube video: Les Twins choreography being ripped off on 'SYTYCD' - YouTube

Would that be against the rules?

Well, as an Oakland resident, I wasn’t amused by this slight. Why couldn’t they have given Oakland some props while still showing SF scenery porn? But by constantly saying SF and not the Bay Area (and ignoring Oakland completely), I thought it really sucked. :frowning:

Does anybody know where the shirt that Katee Shean was wearing in Thursday’s episode came from? I really liked it and want to buy it for myself

New episode tonight.

I love that we’re getting briskly through the auditions, seeing a few people getting a few stories, but not spending more than an hour per city. One more hour of auditions tonight, then next week – Vegas, baby!

I probably say it every year, but I LOVE how virtually all the auditioneers have beautiful manners. They at least seem to listen to what the judges say, consider it without argument, and mostly thank them for the chance to try out.

And the audience – which I think is mainly dancers waiting their turns, are amazingly supportive and appreciative of the one that is performing.

This show is such a pleasure in contrast to the behavior on so many other competition reality shows.

Annie’s dad was one of the best things I’ve ever seen on this show.

Yeah, I’ve made mention of that before and the answer I get is usually something about how most of the dancers (the serious ones) have been doing it for years, so they’re used to rejection and auditions, etc, as opposed to American Idol where you get a lot of people who sings well in church and thinks they’re the next Maria Carey.

Yeah, that was pretty bizarre.

Another good thing about the season – no Sex. Or his mother.

Was he around last season? I don’t remember him.

I didn’t like the Krumper for Christ guy.
Oh, and SYTYCD is on Hulu. Holler!

The Beatles Lady freaked me out. But I agree about the Dad. My first thought was ‘isn’t he too old?’ but my second was, “how cool would that be”. Then they said something about him having to show ID that he was under 30. Bummer. I wonder why they have the < 30 rule. Anyone know?

Holy fuck, that Japanese girl just did the coolest audition routine I’ve seen in a long time. That was amazing.

About that. He wasn’t on last year either, but I noticed something. The past few years they seem to be going the opposite way as AI. They seem to be only showing the people who either have a chance or at least trying (even if they aren’t good), but leaving off the people who are just wasting everyone’s time for their 15 minutes. I have to wonder if Sex has been there the last few years and they just haven’t been showing it. OTOH, for some reason I remember SYTYCD showing him doing something with someone in the communications industry and him saying he wouldn’t be auditioning anymore.

I am envious of the Mason sisters. They are complete goofballs around each other. If she gets picked for top 20, her vignettes will be comedy gold.

The premise of the show is young dancers, which I think is fair. A lot of the competition is extremely physical, and older dancers would be at a serious disadvantage. A 50-year-old in fabulous shape – which this guy wasn’t, though he was clearly in pretty decent shape – would not be able to keep up with a 20-year-old in training.

And, yeah, y’all are right, we didn’t see Sex last year either, I’d forgotten that.

That first brunette just about had Tyce orgasming and going straight for her- I’m no dance expert but I just didn’t see the appeal. She was good, but not worth all that IMO.

I get that a lot as well. Someone will be dancing and I’ll be thinking “Wow, this is awful, how’d she make it past the round 1 judges” only to hear Nigel say “I’m speechless, you’re going to Vegas” or “On three 1-2-3 VEGAS”
I look at it like photography. I can look at a picture and have a good feel for what I can photoshop in to a good picture. Obviously some dancers are ready for the stage right off the bat, but there are some that, I think, to the untrained eye look awful, but to someone that’s been dancing and teaching dance for 30 some odd years they can look at them and know the person has the skills they need to be transformed into something great.

Also, I’ve never been one for the lyrical stuff. So when I see someone prancing and skipping around on stage it really doesn’t do anything for me. Except for that one girl that they said was on last year also.

So am I going to be the one to say it? The large girl can’t be on the show.

For two reasons, really. First, because of her weight, she instantly puts whomever she’s partnered with at a huge disadvantage. Second, she’s just not that skilled. She isn’t. In my mind she should have barely made it to Vegas save for the fact that, really, they can pick anyone to go to Vegas because, who cares? right? But now she’s down to the top 38 after doing one performance over, skipping another entirely, and just not being all that great of a dancer to begin with. NO one else got that sort of second and third chance. There had to be at least four dozen other dancers who got eliminated already and could dance rings around her.

She can’t go through. But the only reason she’s gotten this far is because the producers want a shot of the two sisters coming down to the single last spot in the top 20 and a tearful 30 seconds of them hugging and crying and saying they’ll love each other no matter who gets picked, before they go with the skinny one. Let’s watch tonight and see if my prediction holds.
