No worries, I’m surprised I’m wanting him to succeed as well
It’s really odd, to me he’s coming across as someone being sincere who is completely not used to being sincere ever–if that makes any sense.
I also seem to be seeing significant improvement with his dancing, which I’m not seeing with LT. And it’s hard to tell if Ty is really improving, or if he just had a couple of dances where it was easier to disguise his faults.
David is a very bitter, bitter bunny. Wow. That was… Kym looked like she could see her chances of getting to be on another season fade into oblivion with every additional syllable that came out of his mouth. Poor woman.
Now, obviously, what he said was inappropriate and out of proportion – but there is an element of truth to it. I know I commented upthread about the fact that the judges seemed way out of proportion harsh on him, and I’m pretty sure others of you were agreeing with me.
No, of course not, but in the moment, you could clearly see her mortification.
I absolutely agree. I went back and looked at some of the comments made to him and they were ridiculously personal, especially in contrast to comments made to the plodding Wozniak or the utterly useless piece of silicon reality bunny girl whose name is escaping me at the moment.
After DAG’s elimination, Gilles Marini posted to his twitter account:
DAG apparently had a great rapport with the other stars. Of course I think they all mostly get along and like one another, but you never know.
His problem wasn’t with the judges’ scoring, but with their commentary. Bruno was snarky with him, and DAG, being a comedian, did a silly impersonation of Bruno, and then Bruno went from snarky to flat out nasty, with an even more sour look on his face than usual. And Carrie Anne essentially found three different ways in three different weeks to call him ugly and say that she didn’t like his face. Even when she had to admit that his dancing had improved, his face bothered her.
Ty & Chelsie are just too cute together. Sure Ty had some missteps, but they were still fun. I like them.
Shawn did awesome, IMO. I was distracted by Mark’s big shining smile full of teeth though. I like him a lot, normally, but she seemed so in character and he seemed to have a fake smile plastered on his face.
Yeah, like Len, I found the sexuality aspect of that whole dance a little overdone. But I have to admit that Chuck danced well, much better than I had expected. I hate him like poison anyway, but he managed to move his hips much better than I would have expected him ever to do. Julianne must be one heck of a teacher, or he really needs the money.
I was pretty underwhelmed with all the dances last night. Lil’ Kim was the best from a performance standpoint, although Len was right that she lacked jive content. Shawn did an adequate job with the rumba, although her hips were still too square. I did think the “fake prom” was cute, although the idea of a 17-year-old going to the prom with a man six years her senior skeeved me out a little.
Steve-O needs to go home. As does LT. And Chuck (but that’s mostly because of a general dislike).
Lil Kim & Derek seemed like a great freestyle, but not quite a jive. The Bachelorette can’t pull off emotion or intensity. I didn’t believe her paso nor the rumba this week.
I still like Ty. And since the tango, I’ve found Gilles mesmerizing - even this week when his scores were lower, its still just great to watch him dance.
Just watched the reveal episode, and won’t say who is out, because I’m not sure what the spoiler policies are in these threads, but I did want to comment that I enjoyed the brief glimpse at the costume design process. I’ve been kind of fascinated for awhile about who has input into these things, and how many small children they have locked in a room sewing sequins onto bustiers, so I hope that with ‘the stars design the costumes’ week, we’ll get more of a view of what that looks like.
I’m amused that Lawrence intends to put more clothes on Edyta, while Chuck thinks he can get Julianne into fewer.
I’m thinking (hoping?) that the glimpses of cutting and sewing are mostly for show, and that it’s really more the stars picking material and describing the concept, and the professional costume makers working from that…
What I’d really like to see is a behind-the-scenes look at when they tell the pros who they are working with. “You get to work with an Olympic-caliber gymnast.” “You get to work with a fat, aging geek.”
Yeah, I’m sure they aren’t actually making the costumes – or even designing them other than in the sense of saying things like 'A really big floaty skirt, with ruffles. Make it pink. And once you’ve got Mark in that, I’ll wear a tasteful dress."
But it’s still a part of the show I’ve always wanted to know more about, and this is the only opportunity we’ve had to see it.
Re: discussing results – usually I spoiler any comments the night of the show since I’m on the East Coast. The next morning, anything goes.
Glad to see the end of Steve-O – and Lacey, who I really dislike. Glad Ty’s fans rallied behind him; he and LT will be the next two out, in some order, but at least he made it into the second half of the season (and the group dance!)
No dance-off this week – so far they’ve actually done that twice? three times? Make a decision and stick with it, people – either you’re doing dance-offs or you’re not, don’t arbitrarily change it from week to week depending on what else you’ve got to fill the hour with.
Speaking of which – I actually watched the whole show this week (The Mentalist was a rerun). Loved the West Side Story number, loathed Carmen Electra and the hoochie-coochie number done as an homage to Bob Fosse by someone (ooh! an original Pussy Cat Doll!) who badly misunderstands Bob Fosse.
Enjoyed the body language segment – interesting to see how certain people keep repeating the same gestures (Shawn tensing and relaxing her shoulders; Melissa grimacing and protecting her stomach).
And it will definitely be fun to see the costumes next week!
That Carmen Electra number was, at least, a song I have always quite liked. Which is good, because as a dance routine, it could easily have been summarized as “Carmen Electra painfully searches for her mark, usually finding it two beats late.”
I actually look forward to the “Macy’s Stars of Dance” segment, because they’ve been more hit than miss. It’s usually a chance to see some company that I wouldn’t otherwise, and there’s often some great talent on display.
And then there was last night. Wow. I can’t even say that there was interesting choreography that Electra just couldn’t pull off. It was just that bad all around.
And then they follow it up with that gut-cramp-inducing rendition of “Revolution?” Seriously? I had always put Rascal Flatts in my mental file drawer labelled, “Bland, Mostly Inoffensive Pop-country I Don’t Particularly Want to Hear.” They have now graduated to, “Enemy of All Things Good and Right in the World.” What the hell was that? And what was with the Soviet-looking banners? Are they actively trying to make people hate them?
